flying standby

Hi everyone,

I could use some advice on flying into Gothenburg during the early summer. I am planning a trip to Germany first, and will be there for a week, before I meet a handful of friends in Gothenburg during the last week of June.

My friends will be flying out from NYC, but the summer travel rates are making it so that many of them can not go. I’ve been to Gothenburg before, and it cost me around $800 round trip. But that was in April, and i seems as if the cheapest flights I can find for them in June are over $1000. Many of them are students, and cost is a huge issue for them.

is it easy to fly standby on European flights? like is it costly or a hassle or crowded? is it possible with easyjet and ryan air? is this even an option if you have a US passport? —thanks
