Turkey

Turkey in December

Hey all, well I am considering doing a trip to Turkey in early December. But am unsure about it as yet as I have read a few times that apart from Istanbul and the coast, everywhere shuts down and its hard to get some sort of accomodation. Which is disheartening because I really want to get to the Eastern part of Turkey. I am just a bit worried about the weather, transport and accom to be honest. I do know its cold and snowy for a bit of winter.

Any hints or tips guys?

Cheers

My film “What the Sultan Saw” highlights the history of Turkey & Constantinople/Istanbul, featuring the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman Empires plus modern Turkey.

This tour of western and central Turkey stars the Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Cappadocia (land of scenic fairy chimneys), Ephesus (& other Roman cities), the Turkish Riviera, Turkish folk dancing & belly dancing, shopping for the magic flying carpet, and much more.

The video can be seen on the web, if you have a high speed internet connection.

Turkey--ataturk university

Hey guys! Has anyone here ever been to Turkey? More specifically, Erzurum, Turkey? I’m looking at possibly doing a study abroad there with language immersion as well as an internship to fill requirements for an internship before I graduate with a degree in Agriculture. I’m super excited about the possibility of getting my internship out of the way while studying abroad, but I know verrry little about Turkey, its culture and customs and this makes me very intimidated.

What is Turkey like? What are the people like? What is the weather like?

New Years Eve in Istanbul

Hey everybody!

I just booked my hostel in Istanbul from Dec 30-Jan 1 2009. I’m traveling alone and would love to have something awesome to do on NYE – does anyone have any suggestions or experiences of Istanbul on New Years? I’ve been doing some poking around, but a lot of the stuff I see is sort of crap touristy stuff (very expensive!), but I’d be up for something tacky if it was fun!

Thanks!

Eastern Europe, December 2008-January 2009

Hi everyone! I’m planning a solo backpacking trip (my first!) for this December/January. I got a great deal on a flight to Poland so that’s my starting point. I need some pointers on where to go/avoid and also some ideas on how over-crowded my current itinerary is looking. Help?

The dates in question are 10 December 2008 – 25 January 2009 (42 days). I need to be back in Aberdeen, Scotland for the 26th as I have classes, so I need to end up somewhere on the 25th with direct air connections to Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Right now I have:

10/12 thru 11/12 – Wroclaw, Poland
