Make sure you check out amsterdam while you’re at it.

They drink cold beer in Germany, the ‘clubs’ in scotland close at 11pm, they play soccer outside of England and no, there’s nothing unique about doing anything you suggested.

You don’t need a europe trip to have exciting stories, a 40oz & bag of crush is all you need

Sweetheart,

You don’t sound ready for this trip.  What I recommend is that you do a study-abroad program in Europe while in college.  Or, maybe a working holiday abroad during one of your summers.  I think you should look into studying abroad in Germany, since you feel more connected to that country.  Although keep in mind that Germany is probably not how you expect it to be, thus expect a decent amount of culture shock and learning process.  Don’t expect to “experience culture” by doing a whirlwind tour of Europe.  The only thing you’ll become experienced in (this way) is standing in line at museums and sleeping at train stations.  You need a bit more time to “experience a culture”.

Because you want to have interesting and insightful experiences in Europe, I think it would be most rewarding and beneficial for you to live in a foreign country for a few months, instead traveling around Europe knowing next to nothing and expecting a unique/romanticized European experience.  As someone already mentioned, the “clubs” in Scotland (and pretty much in all of Britain) close early…Spain and Greece are best known for nightlife…not really Britain (especially not Scotland..although Scotland has plenty other great things to see and do).

There’s so much more information for you to discover.

But definitely keep lurking here at Eurotrip, keep reading our posts.  READ about places that interest you, in travel publications and online.

And NO, college is not the end of life.  Don’t feel rushed to do this before college.

P.S. Beer is never drunk warm.  The term “warm beer” in Britain refers to beer that is cooled (stored in cellars at 55F or 13C), instead of chilled (refrigerated at 34F or 1C).

god you sure have copped sme slack! i am 18 as well, nearly 19 now actually but i left Oz in november the day after my exams and came to france. I have been working as an au pair for a great family ever since but will soon be finishing up to go travelling. i must admit it is not my first time in europe, i am quite an experienced traveller, well as “experienced” as you can be at 18 so i have not had any problems in the travelling i have done. since arriving i have done lots of day and weekend trips.

I would have to agree with the others though that you don’t sound ready for this trip, sorry to burst your bubble, and i would highly recommend that you do something similar to what i have done, work for 6 months then travel for the rest.

It’s living with a family that you experience the real culture that not many others get to see.

You asked about exctiting but different experiences, here’s a few of my fond memories;

-bike riding through the forest to spot deer and rabbit
-local french soccer matches
-christmas day the traditional french way
-going out for a lunch of beer, mussels and chips in belgium

ok i am going to stop cus i could go on forever, but there’s an idea for you.
