Hi, My friend and I are travelling to Europe in 3 weeks time and plan on being in Germany the start of October. Just wandering if it will still be worth visiting Munich for Oktober fest even though its basically at the end of it anyway? We would really love to be able to go and check it out and have a few beers and say we’ve been to Oktoberfest!!!!!.

if you are there and the there is still bier being served and music being played in the tents, you should definately make it ther, even if for one day or night….. it’s an experience like no other

The statr/end of Oktoberfest are always the same. It always starts the 3rd Saturday (approx. 1030 a.m.) of Sept. – and ends the first Sunday in Oct. The only exception is every seven years or so, when a certain German Holiday falls on the 1st Monday in Oct. In this case they run it for one day extra, ending about 2300 hrs on Monday nite. However, 90% of the time it is 16 days in duration. Unfortunately for you, the 3rd Saturday in Sept. comes very early in 2006, falling on 9/16. That being the case, O-Fest will be ending the nite of 10/2/06…

I’ve been confirming reservations & organizing my travel docs. I did some shopping today..bought a light rain coat for $15 that I’ll probably just toss away rather than packing it on the way home. I’m meeting with my 3 travel buddies next week to go thru our itinerary & finalize some last minute details. We started planning so early that most of the work is done months in advance, which makes for a looooong wait.
Oktoberfest Countdown: 20 Days, 7 hours und 43 minutes

I wish it was tomorrow..I really need a break from work!!

Wow! Even without a wind at your back, you could hit the Hippodrom or Fischer Vroni Zelt with a paper airplane – from your hotel room window!!!

It’s not so bad for me though, being 2 miles away from the Fest grounds…

A. I could use the walking exercise.

B. Lot’s of babes to watch & talk to on the Marienplatz.

C. My Hotel has a roof-top pool, gorgeous spa, several bars& restaurants, as well as a night/jazz club inside, and a great view of the City Centre & Alps..

D. There are approximately 3,435 places to stop along the way to the Fest – and have a bier!

I’ll manage…

My buddy and I just decided to head to Oktoberfest from Canada. Can’t wait. Obviously this late it is hard to find accomodations. If anyone has any advice on where to stay (that is still close enough to stumble home) I’d appreciate it.

I’ve heard about camping sites, hostels, etc. The closer the better. Please help! Thanks.

Turbo: Unfortunately, finding something this late in the game will be impossible on weekends, and perhaps just as impossible during the first week. However, you might be able to find something for 2 or 3 week nites, perhaps 45 to 50 mins (by train) outside of the city centre. What dates are you planning to fly-in??

These guys might have a room. Please call: 49 89 536482

What’s up guys? Yeah..the hotel is perfectly located for that late night stumble home from the fest. There’s an awesome view from the tower at St. Paul’s cathedral. If you get a chance, check it out..talk about a photo op!! It’s a bit outside the city center, which makes for a lot of walking to the major sights, but that’s fine. I’m used to hoofin it on vacation. Actually, I love walking. Like you guys said, plenty of places to stop along the way. My feeling is you gotta walk the city to know & enjoy the city. I don’t spend all day/night in the tents. A few hours a day is plenty for me.
TurboNerd: Try http://www.oktoberfe…
There have been several threads/posts about accomodations being available. I hope it helps..good luck!

SS: Weather permitting, we’re most likely gonna be doing a day trip that 1st morning we arrive in Munchen (Sun). It’s looking like Appenzell, Switzerland or Trento, Italy, but we’ll be back in town by 8pm. Hopefully you’ll be at the pub later on at night on the 17th. I’ll be sure to call you when I get back into town & we’ll hook up.
Prost!

ESPO: We will more than likely be at the Pub around 2200 or 2300 hrs. If not, we will be at the Night Club in the Bayerischer Hof. It all depends on what they have going-on that night.. More than likely, we’ll be at the usual pub…

SS: It looks like we are arriving Sept 15th and leaving the 25th.
ESPO: Awesome forum link. Thanks.

I’ve had friends say they’ve showed up at some of the camp sites and been able to squeeze in during Oktoberfest. Not the nicest of accomodations, but there aren’t a lot of options. I have no desire to get loaded and commute 45min to get home so staying in another city is not really a plan right now.

I’ll keep trying the Forums and maybe something will show up last minute.

Can’t wait for the good times to begin.

This will be my 4th. I guess I will probably miss you sunskin unless you are still drinking on the 20th. I will know more in a day or so. CRAZY!

Team Canada is official. Tickets booked this morning.

Buddy and I are arriving the 15th from Vancouver and staying till the 24th. We may spend a few days midweek going somewhere like Prague, but we’ll play it by year.

Apparently a bunch of Canadians are trying to meet at the Hofbrau tent on the 16th by the Pig Pen? My buddy and I are virgins, but as we understand it if we get there at 9:30am we can get in.

Counting down the hours…

Otter tells Flounder "you’d better listen to him, he’s pre-med". But in the courtroom scene Otter tells Boone "don’t worry about it I’m pre-law", Boone comes back with "I thought you were pre-med" which Otter comes back with "what’s the difference". I spent way too many drunken nights watching Animal House over and over again in high school. Fat, Drunk and Stupid is no way to go through life but I’ve been giving it my best.

I purchased one of the best portable DVD Players (Sony Watchman) available – just for this trip… It only has a 7" screen, but this particular one is supposed to hold a batter charge for 8 hrs. All the other ones, including more expensive models with larger screens, etc…. Only 3.5 to 4.5 hrs. I am bringing the following movies for the 17-hour (RT) flight…

Animal House
The 40 Yr-Old Virgin
Collateral
The Matador
Old School
Caddyshack
Van Wilder
Coach Carter or Goodfellas

Quality Selection. I just bought a new laptop for this trip. I’ve been traveling with a 17 inch screen and I like the big screen but decided it’s just a pain in the butt to carry around and the battery lasts about an hour. Got a 14 inch Gateway now and it lasts a full 3 hours + picture is way sharper. I need another battery though for the long trip. I also bought Kelly’s Heroes for $5 at Best Buy with computer and it’s going on the trip for the flight. After checking my Animal House tape to make sure I drunk memory was still OK with Bluto being Pre-Med, I watched Kelly’s Heroes and it’s still a classic. Donald Sutherland at his best. "Just drinking some wine, eating some cheese, catching some rays."

Wally: I got "The Great Escape" on DVD for $5.99 at WalMart not so long ago. Yes, I would recommend a second(3-hr) battery for the trip…

Talking about movies on the plane…I’m trying to get my "Arrested Development" DVD loaded into my ipod…

This is my 1st trip to europe and thus my longest flight…does it suck?

I’m guessing that it must seem like you’ll never get there.

I generally try to sleep on the way there as I usually arrive in the morning local time so that helps to defeat the jetlag. on the way back I arrive 2 hours after I take off…so that is a little more difficult on an 8 hour flight. Just rack if you can on the way back I am so tired anyways it usually isn’t an issue. Or I am ill like 3 years ago when I met Sunskin there…haha

Yes indeed… Herr Walshy was not in top bier-consuming form, but I could tell he really did not feel very well. I try to sleep on the plane as well, but there are two issues..

A. I work midnight shift, so I am used to being awake from 2300 till 0800 hrs.

B. I am generally excited about going overseas, so I have energy.

I spent the entire last day of my trip in bed being taken care of by two girls from Phoenix. It was rough. But I recovered in time to not have a miserable trip back.

11 straight days at the fest will do that to ya. HAHA

Sounds like me and old Walshy have a few things in common. I know that I’ll be so excited that sleeping on the plane will be difficult.

Just ordered a battery pack for my video ipod, so I’m hoping that should help…

Any movie suggestions to get me in the Oktoberfest mood?

ESPO & Others: The B767 was "broken" flying-out of ATL-Hartsfield on Saturday afternoon. We were supposed to arrive at MUC Flughafen at 0755, but I was delayed(we took the other B767 that was slated for Buenos Aires) 3 hrs! Still, I made it to the Pub on Sunday(9/17) at 1330 hrs. I also made it there at 1300 hrs on Monday(9/18) – and,,, left my mobile number with the Hotel front desk. Nobody called, but I had a good time at the Paulaner, Auggie, & Weinzelt’s…

Sunskin I must have just missed you at the pub on that Monday. I was there from 10:30 AM until about 1:15 PM when I went back to check in to my hotel. Also went back that night which was a blast. Oktoberfest overall was great. Canstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart was pretty fun also. Got to see tapping 1st keg there. It way smaller than Munich but still lots of fun. I didn’t get a chance to check website until late in the week so I missed your phone number. There is always next year. When does the countdown start? I’ve got tons of pictures I hope to have on my website within the month. I’ll post here when I get them online. By the way – has anyone had problems trying to post on this site lately? This is first time this week since I got home I’ve been able to post. I keep getting error messages and the site closes.

No problem Sunskin. I was running on fumes by that time. I had stayed up all night watching that debacle of a football game between the Redskins and Cowboys. From the time I left Washington Saturday to the time I left the pub 2 days later I had about 1 hour sleep. I just can’t sleep on planes and I’m always afraid to sleep on a train. I had a cousin who did that and ended up 200 miles past where he was supposed to get off. I’m having all kinds of problems trying to log on to this site now. I’ve been trying to answer you since the day after you posted your reply to me. The site keeps crashing on me when I try to log on. Anyways I had a blast and have 3 friends who are showing interest in next year. Start the countdown.

That game was a fluke, as was the NY Giants loss. Gibbs will have them prepared to even the score in those contests when we play again at home. Many of the experts predicted the NFC East would be so tough, that everyone would go (9-7) or (8-8) this season. The Eagles have started well, but they play the NFL’s toughest schdule (by far) the final seven weeks of 2006. They play successive road games over three weeks vs. Wash., Dallas, and the Giants… Just before and after that, they have to play Jacksonville, Carolina, and Atlanta.

I am leaving from EWR with $4000 for 9 days
