Punching in random dates I see American direct from JFK to Stansted (convenient for connections to low-cost airlines) at $440 in February and $545 in May all in before discount. (For those humanity types that makes $360 and $465 after discount.)
This is a decent price concidering that about $280 of the total are all sorts of taxes.
Studentuniverse would normally sell tickets to anyone with .edu e-mail, not just students.

I don’t know if Student Universe works for Canada departures, but if you qualify for student or youth tickets (under 26) then www.travelcuts.ca and www.statravel.ca might also interest you.
