Additional cost of sleeper trains with rail pass
Fri, 01/01/2010 - 16:05
I am planning to spend about 2 months in Europe this summer and will purchase a rail pass. I am aware that there is an extra charge for sleeper trains even if you have a rail pass but I cannot find how much the additional cost will be, any ideas? Thanks!!!
I am leaving from Detroit, Michigan with $3200 for 31 days
Madrid, Málaga, Valencia, Barcelona, Ibiza, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Berchtesgaden, Venice, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Rome

It says on the Eurail website they are usually between 15-25 euros but the hotel trains are more expensive.
London, Salisbury, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh, Inverness, Edinburgh, London
Venice, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Sorrento, Rome
Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Bangkok
2008—Language study abroad in Paris, France

2010— Birthday UK trip!
2011— Teaching English in South Korea
2012— ????
Sometimes you can reserve a reclining seat for 5 to 10 euros. A berth in a 6 berth couchette is usually 19 to 30 euros. The fanciest first class single on the fanciest train will be nearly 200 euros. This link from the Rick Steves website shows the costs on the most popular routes: http://www.euraide.d…
You can sometimes find advance purchase specials for ticket and reservation as low as 29 euros from bahn.de — so buying the ticket is considerably cheaper than using a day of your railpass.
Wow! Thank you so much, this information has been VERY helpful
I was having such a hard time figuring out the additional cost and now it is all clear!
Thanks Again!!
