Advance Booking in April?
Sun, 03/25/2007 - 13:32
Hi,
I know there have been plenty of advance booking threads on here, but most seemed to be about booking during high season (summer?). I’ll be in Western Europe traveling with one other person from Apr. 4-16.
We’re planning to possibly see these cities or places, but I would value flexibility over certainty, so this is just a potential list:
Brussels
Amsterdam
Munich
Paris
Mont St. Michel
Venice
Milan or other Italian cities
So my question is, will any of these areas be problematic as far as finding hostels as walk-ins? We’re not too picky, mainly just want to avoid not being able to find a bed at all. Should we reserve for easter or weekends? I know the standard advice is to reserve the first night or two (Brussels and Amsterdam) and the last (Milan), so we might do that.
Thank you.

In April, I wouldn’t worry about booking ahead of time, even on weekends. One exception to that would be if you happen to be in Italy or Rome at Easter. That might be one time where things might be a little busier. But by the looks of your possible itin., you will be starting in Brussels around the Easter weekend???
Your right though, definitly book your first night or 2. You’ll be happy to not have to hunt around when you first arrive, and feel the jet-lag. And, if you’re flying home from Milan, if wouldn’t hurt to book that either.
Thanks nivid. We will probably be in Amsterdam and Paris over the weekend, probably Paris on Easter. Brussels is mainly just our entry point since it was the cheaper flight in to Western Europe, might just be there one day. Jet lag shouldn’t be too bad as I am currently living in Northern Ireland (though I’m from the US). Yes, we are leaving from Milan. Thank you for your advice.
I think there’s only one hostel in Milan and it’s not very good, judging by the reviews. If you are going to get a hotel room anywhere, this is probably a good spot. I’d definitely look for something in Venice too – this is an increasingly crowded city with almost no downtime now. People also seem to have trouble finding stuff in Amsterdam.
