Hey everyone. I was supposed to be traveling in june (you might have seen my previous thread “3 weeks in the balkans”), but because of work related issues i had to postpone the whole thing… But i got an extra week off ! So here i am with a brand new 4 weeks itinerary in the balkans.

Aug 8th – arrive in Vienna. Cheap flight to Sofia – 1 night
Quick tour of sofia, then bus to Veliko Tarnovo – 3 nights
Bus to Plovdiv – 2 nights
Train to Belgrade – 4 nights
Bus to Sarajevo – 4 nights
Bus/Train to Mostar – 1 night
Bus to Budva – 4 nights (will include daytrip to kotor, and albania maybe)
Bus to Dubrovnik – 3 nights
Bus/Ferry to Korcula and/or Hvar – 3 nights total (not too sure about this part)
Ferry to Split – 2 nights
Cheap flight to Vienna, than shuttle to bratislava – 1 night
Sept 5th – Shuttle back to Vienna airport to fly home

So what do you guys think of that ? Any comments, suggestions ? Also, is it possible to do a daytrip to plitvice lakes from split ? Oh, and in case you wonder, i’ve already been to Vienna, i’m just passing through cause it was the cheapest flight i could find… Thanks !!

I hate that you’re missing Slovenia, but this sounds like a great trip and I don’t know what to cut to fit it in. If you like mountains, hiking, mountain scenery, it’s a shame to miss Slovenia.

don’t worry about that, i spent 5 days in Slovenia last years ( Ljubljana, Bled and Piran ). You’re right, it is a great country !

Ah, the bus to Plitvice! There should be a movie with that title. You will know why if you ever try to take it.

No, it’s a long way away. I drove from Rab at 8AM (one of the Brijuni islands up north) to Plitvice, hiked around for a half-day or more and then drove on to Zagreb arriving in Zagreb around 8PM.

That was 5 years ago. The bus service at the time was notoriously spotty.
