We will be in Bruges for a week (we found a nice house to rent), but I’m not sure there is enough to do in Bruges to keep us busy for a week. We will probably go to Antwerp for one or two days and to the Zwin (a nature refuge) for a day.

What other things to see are in the area?

You know, I have never been to Bruges (and hope to remedy that some day.)
But what about a day trip to Lille? It is a fun, walkable city.

Lille looks nice, but probably needs more than a day trip because of the museum. Its out of the range of my transportation pass for this visit. But I’ll keep it in mind when we get to northern France.

Ghent? Another nearby Flemish “water town” with 3 rivers and a canal flowing through it. Flower Market on Sunday, Fruit and Vegetable Market Monday through Saturday.

Unfortunately, French Belgium seems too far away for day trips, but Namur and Brussels would be options. I generally don’t suggest Brussels for the typical tourist as there are few great “tourist sights, “ but a day trip for a Waffle, Chocolate, a Beer, a glance at the Medieval Square and figuring out the difference between French and Flemish is definitely worth it.

SNCB Used to offer packages that included train (and/or bus) ticket plus admission tickets plus occasionally lunch. I could not find much about it on their website, but here are some basics: http://www.b-rail.be…
