How should I book a flight found on ITA? I don’t have a travel agent and don’t want to pay for one… do I need to call the varying airlines by myself with codes… if so how can I be secure of the price/ticket availability?
Sorry for the ignorant question, just unfamiliar with this site…

No, you can’t book directly through ITA, and sometimes it’ll find fares that just don’t seem to be available from any of the sites that actually sell tickets. I’m sure someone will suggest a better way to find those fares, but I typically just search my repertoire of sites until I find them or something close enough.

Take the itinerary (cities and dates) you found with ITA, and search the same at www.bookingbuddy.com If it’s a multi-city itinerary, then try the multi-city searches at Kayak and Mobissimo.

In my experience the best chance to replicate ITA “weird” fares is via Orbitz. Couple of times I’ve managed to make Orbtz construct the same set of connecting flights as was found by ITA and pay the ITA price plus Orbitz fee.
On the other hand if ITA shows a direct round trip for $200 less then any actual booking site, that’s IMHO a sure sign that such fare does not exist.
