I really want to catch the Lisdoonvarna matchmaking festival this year, and i’m going to be in western ireland at the end of august to early september – 30,31,1. This is supposed to be the first weekend of the Matchmaking festival so I’m assuming the dates are good.

My question is, whats the best way to really experience this festival? Should we stay at a hotel in Lisdoonvarna? Or if we stay in Doolin or Enis could we just take a bus into Lisdoonvarna in the afternoons to catch the festival or will we miss out alot if we’re not staying in town?
Will the celebration ONLY be in Lisdoonvarna or will more towns in the west be celebrating during those times? Are there alot of tourists that come for the festival or mostly locals?
Is the festival really worth all the hassle or will it be pretty quiet and uneventful?

If anyone’s been there before and can help I would really appreciate it.
