Over the past year I received a lot of advice on where to take my husband for his first trip to Europe. He didn’t really want to go, but was doing it to make me happy. I wanted him to have a good time so that he would want to go again one day since I love to travel. Well, I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice (especially Cynthea & Ivan). We had an amazing trip and just as I had hoped, the experience brought us closer and to even his own surprise, he has used the words "next time" many times now. We encountered a few difficulties, the worst being a 1 day train strike in Paris which threw off our itinerary. I had planned a detailed itinerary to minimize the stress of enroute decisions, but it turned out that having no reservations is less stressful than having to cancel a bunch of reservations after straying from one itinerary. We threw away our itinerary and ended up in Positano for 4 idyllic days. That turned out to be our favorite stop. It was definitely the place to go with someone you love. I’m sure this information is all over the boards already, but in a nutshell – we saved more money by using the atm’s & our visa, we should have called our calling card company before we left and made sure that we were put on a plan that would give us a discount for international calling, and it really pays to know how to use the phones in case of unexpected emergencies (like train strikes) & to call hotels before you get to a city. We have much to recommend for anyone interested in Positano!
