what’s weird is that i was here in late ’97 and ’98 when i was 18 and planning my first eurotrip! then i took a hiatus and when i came back in early 2003, the system had changed and deleted my user name…but i still got it back!

I didn’t join Eurotrip until 2000 but things certainly have changed, remember those ‘Student’s’ that went on a fling through various countries and reported back to Eurotrip, are any on them still on this site??
I joined in Jan 20 1999, about a year before Andrew sold the place on. I’m the reason there’s a Eurotrip Pub, it was my request to create the pub (really it was an excuse to start the "Eurotrip Pub Brawl", the most legendary thread on E/T which was shut down for legal reasons).
I’ll be leaving at 8000 posts, 200 to go!

Eurotrip says the board I was looking for is "unvailable because of routine maintenance." I was looking for fall of ’99, that’s when I began lurking, but I joined later, in January of 2000.
What I’d really like to reread is something somebody here was already mentioned, and at least once before dug up: the archive of what led to the founding of the Pub.

It’s crazy to even have something like archive.org, I can’t imagine how much hard disk space they must be using to archive the internet like that. People that ever plan on running for public office better be very careful what they say online, because their opponent will certainly use their words against them, even if it’s decades later. Maybe this is all part of the disappearance of privacy.

Andrew created the pub because numerous posts in "Favorite Places" had nothing to do with ‘Favorite Places’ at all. Peeps were posting threads about "What do you look like?", "What’s your favorite beer?", etc.
It was during the newly created forum, "The Pub" that jboy started a thread called ‘Pub Brawl’, which he can be credited for, HOWEVER, it was the Herr, or Herr Schwanse back then, that first started posts in that thread writing a tale about an encounter with the infamous Boris at the pub and beating him with a pool stick that got all the other posters going and continuing on with the story. That was when the thread got pulled by Andrew. The Herr actually had a copy of "
ub Brawl" but was wiped out when his computer crashed.
The Herr would not be writing this scroller if it was not true.

I found one of my posts from May 3rd, 1997, as well as my review of the 3 Ducks Hostel in Paris (under the April 09, 1997 link and in the hostel review section). No nicknames back then, just yer real name (with mine in it’s full glory no less). A much simpler time back then.
