When is the best time to purchase a ticket to Madrid. We planning to leave early in September.

That’s the million dollar question. Timing of purchasing tickets depends on lots of unpredictable factors. All I can say is don’t wait til a few weeks before your trip to buy it. Two months ahead of time should be the best.

For early Sept. from BOS, staying > 30 days, usually I’d say after July 4, and book at least 4 weeks before departure.

However… I just checked and see tickets for $785 to BCN and back from MAD outbound Sept. 6, and back Nov. 3 — for example. That’s better than I expected.

Unless you plan to spend all of your time in Spain, consider returning from another city to avoid unecessary backtrack time and expenses. To BCN and back from DUB is $711, for example.
