The largest town on the island of Santorini, Firá is perched on a cliff overlooking the caldera and volcanic island of Nea Kameni below. Half the island was blown away by volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, bringing an end to the civilization that had flourished on the island.
This town is constantly featured on Greece calendars that we see at malls and bookstores in the US.
When in Firá, don’t hesitate to go off the beaten path to explore some of the quieter side streets.
The island of Santoríni has an alternate name: Thira.
