HI!
Me and my cousin are planning our first euro trip for summer2012.
We would really appreciate if you could please guide us with the same.
We are traveling from India towards the end of June for 15 days and would love to cover
Spain
Italy
France and
Netherlands.

1) IS IT FEASIBLE CONSIDERING THE NO. OF DAYS?
2) IF YES, WHICH PLACES SHOULD WE VISIT?

Please help us with a rough itinerary.
Thanks a ton.

I am leaving from Mumbai with $3000 for 16 days
Amsterdam, Paris, Nice, Venice, Rome, Barcelona

My first impression is that you are seeing quite a lot in 15 days, especially when at least 3 days will be spent relocating. However, if you can find a multiple destination flight where you arrive in Rome and leave from the Netherlands, for example, that would give you more time.
Italy, France, and the Netherlands are fairly well connected; Spain is a bit out of the way from the other places. You might look for a cheap flight (beware their luggage restrictions) from Venice to Madrid and back to France. Beware, a lot of people don’t go to Madrid in the Summer, because it is usually very hot, but that depends on the individual.

With this many places in a short trip, you won’t get to see a whole lot in any place, but at least you can get a taste. There is a lot to see in each of your destinations.

Thank you so much. Are you suggesting we should cut down on one place and make it three instead of four?

People have their own styles. I like to stay in one place long enough to see whatever I like there (we rarely stay any where less than a week); others like to visit a lot of places and see only the top sites in any place. Both types of people are right. You have to decide which style fits you. For example, we stayed in Madrid for two weeks. They have some great art museums there and we visited many of them more than once. Other people don’t like museums as much and would be happy seeing two of them in one day, and spending less time in Madrid.

My suggestion is you and your cousin read some travel guides (many can be read on line) for one of your chosen destinations and each make a list of what you might want to see (pick extra stuff in case something is closed when you get there). Then compare your lists and see what you each want to see, and how long it will take. That will give you an idea of how long you should spend in that place. Once you have done that for all your destinations, you can decide whether you have time to see all of them or will have to save one for your next trip.

I think you need to cut either Spain or Italy because of the travel time involved in getting to each of these countries and particularly in getting between the two. I’d probably save Spain for your second trip and add another short stop in France or Italy. Research air fares and decide on whether to cut Spain or Italy based on the best flight combination you find.

That will have to depend on how much time is allocated to the rest of your trip and where you´ll be in France.
