Hello everyone,

I am in a dire need of help regarding our itinerary. We are four young guys 18 to 21 looking to have a trip for roughly thirty days. I outlined our plan so far, but we are open to new ideas. So anybody can try convincing us for different cities to visit in the countries we have planned or whole entire new countries.

We are interested in the beach, seeing some great landmarks i.e churches, fortresses, beautiful views, we like hiking and the nightlife.

Thanks in advance

All suggestions welcome

I am leaving from Newark with $3500 for 30 days
Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Nice, Cinque Terre, Rome

Well beaches can be found in several countries. Out of 50 countries in Europe, only 10 are entirely landlocked (not counting the micro-states like Vatican or Liechtenstein).

But the coasts of Southern Europe (the entire Mediterranean coast + islands, plus the French/Spanish/Portuguese Atlantic coasts, plus parts of the Black Sea coast) will have the most reliably warm/sunny weather, whereas Northern Europe can be hot-cold-hot-cold, rain-dry-rain-dry-drizzly-dry-rain-drizzly-dry, hot-cold-hot-cold, cloudy-cloudy-cloudy-sun-cloudy-cloudy-cloudy-sun. This is why Southern European countries are extremely popular summer vacation destinations for Northern and Eastern Europeans.

As for everything else you’re looking for: they can be found anywhere in Europe. You should figure out which countries interest you most. I don’t think other people can do that for you. It looks like you already have an interest in Portugal, Spain, France, and Italy. Although, it’s a somewhat flawed itinerary, IMO. Milan and Naples are worth a look, but if you’ll be spending little time in Italy, I wouldn’t prioritize them…Rome is pretty much “the best” of urban Italy, you don’t need to also visit Milan. Instead of Naples, I’d do Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast, and Naples can be a daytrip (or Pompeii/Herculaneum). Or I’d do Cinque Terre + Florence. Nice is great, and I would spend quite a few days there (or on another Côte d’Azur town) and take daytrip(s) to other nearby towns. Why only Lisbon in Portugal? I’d try to pick one more destination in that country.

Thank you for the input.

What are some other nice cities or towns in Portugal?
The planned laid out so far is very preliminary so I think we are going to take your advice of skipping Milan. Some help in some alternative places other than the ones in our trip planner would be greatly appreciated, especially in Portugal, Spain and France

Got an extra ten days left. Suggestions?

I would so something along these lines: this is a rough draft:

Portugal

Fly directly into Faro. Faro is served by major European carriers like British Airways, SAS, Lufhtansa, Aer Lingus, as well as Air Transat from Toronto, and European LCCs like easyJet and Ryanair.

I’d spend 3-4 full days in Faro and the Algarve region.

From Faro, head to Lisbon for 1-2 full days, then off to Madrid

Spain

I’d spend 2-4 days in Madrid. Possible daytrip(s) can be Ávila, Toledo, or Segovia.

From Madrid, either head directly for Barcelona for a few days, or go to Alicante (great beach city), spend 2-3 full days there, and possibly visit Altea (lovely town) of Calpe (beach) as a daytrip.

After Alicante, head for Barcelona for maybe 2 full days. The off to Arles, Nîmes, or Aix-en-Provence in France.

France

Spend 1-2 full days in Arles, Nîmes, or Aix-en-Provence. Then head for a Côte d’Azur town. Can be Nice, can be Cannes, can be Menton, can be St-Tropez, can be Antibes (a favorite of mine). Spend 2-4 full days. Possible daytrip(s): Eze, Grasse, Cannes, Nice, Menton, Roquebrune.

The head for Florence or La Spezia (Cinque Terre).

Italy

Spend 1-3 full days in La Spezia, possibly visit other Cinque Terre towns. Or spend 2-3 full days in Florence, visit Siena or San Gimignano or Perugia as daytrip.

Or spend 2-3 full days in Cinque Terre, and then head to Florence for 2-3 full days.

Then head to Rome, 2-3 full days.

Off to Sorrento or Amalfi Coast…2-5 full days. Possible daytrip(s): Naples, Paestum, Herculaneum/Pompeii.

This is a rough itinerary. Try looking up the places I mentioned. If there’s still something specific you’d like to see, that’s not in any of these places, I’m sure we can find something along the way.

Another option would be to possibly choose 3 of the four countries, and include some “off the beaten track” (or at least off the beaten Eurotrip backpacker track) places, like Sardinia, Corsica, Murcia, Puglia region in Italy, somewhere in southwest France…there’s a lot.

Consider the coast of northern Spain: It is beautiful and affordable. Plenty of nightlife in the larger towns such as San Sebastian and Oviedo. Plenty of hiking in the Picos de Europa. Caves, too. You could tie it in with a visit to Portugal.
