First trip abroad, suggestions?
Thu, 04/29/2010 - 18:55
My Fiancé and I will be making out first trip over seas next march for our Honeymoon. We originally planned a backpacking trip begging in Rome, and ending in Venice. No we are considering something a little more jam packed. We have 13 days to travel in Europe and are planning to buy a euorail global pass youth that will allow us to travel for 15 days. The itinerary is as follows, any suggestions at all are appreciated.
1 day in Amsterdam
2 days in Berlin
2 days in Munich, day trip to Dachau concentration camp
2 days in Venice, day trip to Murano
1 day in Bologna
2 days in Florence
stop in Pisa on the way to Rome
spend 3 days in Rome and then return to the states
Any suggestions? Should we just focus on Italy as originally planned or is this quite do-able?

Right off the top of my head, I think this is doable, if you can afford the transportation.
BUT
Remember the actual travel time.
Exhausting.
Italy would be such a wonderful honeymoon- and 13 days would be just the right amount of time to hit Rome (4 days), Venice (2-3 days), Florence/Tuscany region(3-4 days) and Bologna (2 days).
Madrid, Barcelona, Athens, Santorini, Rome, Sorrento, Florence, Cinque Terre, Nice, Lyon, Paris, Zagreb, Grabovac (Plitvice), Split, Dubrovnik, London
I think it’s too rushed when you put in the travel time — especially for a honeymoon. A 15 day global pass is probably a waste of money — even with this overly ambitious itinerary. A 4 country select pass for 5 days plus maybe a point to point ticket in Italy will save $100 each. It’s possible that just buying point to point tickets will be a lot cheaper if you find on-line specials on the Netherlands, German and Italian national rail company websites.
