So I’m hearing/seeing a lot about Tunisia and it looks like a place I’d like to check out when I’m living in Europe next year. I was just wondering if anybody knows THE BEST way to get there and back? I know flying is by far the fastest, but as far as cost effectiveness? I know I remember hearing about cruise ships that go there from Rome (would be cool to do at least one way if only for the historical aspect ), but I don’t know anything about it. Is there any chance of a Eurail/Interrail pass getting a reduction on any cruise lines that go to Tunis?

http://www.eurotrip…. http://www.eurotrip…. Best I can do — I don’t think either will be much help, although Keleti’s posts tell a fair amount about getting around Tunisia.

Ah cool, thanks for the links. I have since found out that the ferry there from the Rome-area does seem to be partially covered by the Eurail pass, but only like 20% off of what could be a 300 euro cruise one way.

Many transportation companies give a discount for a railpass — like most hotels and many attractions in the US give a discount for AAA members. It always pays to ask. For my “future reference file,” how did you find this one?

I looked on Eurail’s website actually. They have the various ferries to/from Italy listed, and the company (or one of them, anyway) with the route from Civitavecchia (I think) to Tunis is listed. Then I plugged in the company’s name and found their website to get a price quote. Prices seem to vary wildly though, which is kind of odd.
