I have a cheesy article about it at http://www.budgetbritain.com/newsletter/Alison%27sgradarticle.asp It is specifically dealing with American abilities to study in the UK, but there is some information that is valuable to anyone.
But the jist of it is, there are plenty of online resources,
http://www.rae.ac.uk/ – The Research Assessment Exercise is the best to find out about reputation. Also I would just suggest looking at the websites of the different universities you are interested, they have a lot of information relevant to international students and most have many scholarships available to international students.
Personally, I just really like the UK and want to be there – so this is the best way to move back!
