I goto the gym 4 days a week here at home. I love the gym and i dont want to stop working out when i go abroad. Do Hostels have gyms in them? I don’t do cardio, i just lift.
Pushups and dips are your friend. Thats how I got by in dublin. It may seem “old school” but, do 400 pushups a day and youll feel good.
As an aside, I think the US is extreme in the sense that there is a gym and a fast food restaurant on every corner. Doesnt really make sense. Seems gyms and obesity aren’t nearly as popular in Europe.
Also, its good to take a week off every 13-16 weeks or so. That being said, it may make sense to make it your week off.
Your gym may offer an IHRSA passport. It shows that you are a belong to a member gym and can use the IHRSA passport for entry to gyms around the world. I believe that you show your passport (signed by your clubs manager) and pay a guest fee for entry to the member gym. The gyms are listed in the back of the passport booklet.
Staying in shape is really important to me too. I just like feeling healthy and fit…all those endorphins make life a happy thing haha. I’ve cooked up some pushup and ab workouts that target an awfully big percentage of your upper body, and since typical tourists do a ton of walking, your legs will get plenty of attention too. That’ll also help burn calories, so if street vendors aren’t dishing you out Atkins-friendly fare (whaaat??), you could still come back in better shape than you left.
A morning run twice a week would go a really long way too. I know you don’t do cardio, but if you’re unable to do the amount of lifting you’d prefer, cutting down body fat will make the muscles you do have much more prominent. David who? Brokebrad just walked into the museum, ladies.
Nope. You’ll get a little out of shape, no working out and you can’t eat right usually either. Its worth it though.

Don’t worry too much about eating. Depending on where you’re going, you may be surprised.
Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, and end up getting charged double.

You won’t find any gyms in hostels, but if you’re walking around with a heavy backpack that might do the trick.

Like walking around the city with 30+ lbs of rocks in your backpack. An old friend did that for 6 hours a day as preparation for boot camp
