Help with Travel into France Out of Prague
Sun, 01/10/2010 - 19:10
So I’m planning a European trip to see Oktoberfest with 3 friends. We don’t want to only due Munich and figured it would be quite a bit cheaper to not have to fly in & out of Munich during that time.
Our plan is to start in the CDP region of France near Orange (so flying into Lyon, Marseille, or Montpellier are all options w/ the last being the most desirable). Then we were going to travel to Munich then to Prague and fly home from there. We’re willing to fly into or out of other places and take ground transit if it’s faster, cheaper, better, etc. We’ll need to travel either leaving on 9-16/9-17 return on 9-26/9-27 or leave on 9-23/9-24 return on 10-3/10-4.
We obviously can easily reverse the order (start in prague finish in france) if it’s cost effective. Oh and we live in Milwaukee so flights out of Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago are all fine with ORD being likely the cheapest.
I have a couple questions: 1. Any particular recommendations on flying at this time? 2. With whom should we fly? 3. How can we get the best pricing on these tickets? Recommend buying now, waiting, using travel agent, specific airline, dif cities, etc 4. Anyone know how to get travel from that region in France to Munich or what that will cost?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Chuck

Forgot to add. So far I’ve been using Kyak and some of the airlines like AA & Lufstansa that I knew to start doing pricing. I have a request out to a travel agent but don’t expect that will be the cheapest way to go. I’m going to continue doing research as I figure it out, but many of the sites don’t make open ended cities on my flights easy to search and with my inexperience on the local cities and travel to and from europe I’m struggling to know what to expect.
Been using ITA seeing costs between 1011 & 1150 depending on which city in France I fly into. Still seems REALLY high. Recommendations?
My comparison was in May 2008 I flew into Munich and out of Amsterdam for around 675.
Cfares, Airdeals, Flights, and EconomyTravel.com are also very good for open-jaw.
ORD is most likely cheapest, and the only option for nonstop flights to Europe. MRS, LYS, and MPL will require a connection somewhere.
I used ITA with both sets of dates and found $846 in to Lyon, returning from Prague; 1 connection each way at Zurich, with airline Swiss; Cfares found it for $823; consolidator ATIflights.com has it $793.
There will probably be some sales between now and then, but for Octoberfest, from Chicago, with these cities, and with the generally higher fares than we’ve been seeing vs. last year, $793 on Swiss seems pretty good.
For flights between France and Munich or Prague, see www.skyscanner.net and www.whichbudget.com

What did you enter to get 793? I found the 846 but not this one, the best ATI is showing me is around 900.
I’ve tried every combination I can think of on ATI but it wont show me anything lower than 876, where’s that 793?
I just checked ATI for you again and it’s still there. $798.22 total. Sorry, I mis-typed it $5 less earlier. CHI>LYS 23 SEP; PRG>CHI 04 OCT showing seats available $798.22 total with taxes and fees.
