To be honset all you need to do for a long trip would be to book the 1st couple of city’s in advance to get you in to the swing of things. What i personaly done when traveing for a long period was book accomidation 2 or 3 days in advance via hostelworld etc. that way you dont arrive in a city searching for somewhere to stay and most of the time you get somewhere decent to stay with out being dedicated to be in place “x” on day 21.

It’s becoming a bit tougher to just turn up and find accommodation (especially in summer) because many people are booking online weeks and months in advance, but like Davy I prefer having more flexibility and booking things a few days in advance when possible.

You shouldn’t need to worry terribly about immigration, by the way. Unless your ticket is a one-way? Then they might have issues. I know this has been discussed at more length in another topic…does anyone remember where that is? It’s recent. I’m having no luck finding it with Search.

imagedrifter, try searching around here a bit for information on here about one-way tickets.

ok i thought i should ask here instead of making new topic.
we are planning to leave from london(we are 3 students from Cyprus btw) and hit paris – milan – vienna – prague – berlin – paris and back london.

we pretty much thought of our itinerary and the how much days spending in each city.
i insisted of book ahead hostels for all our destinations, my friends argue that we should just book one city or two, in advance. i mean we dont have a flexible schedule, whats the point of not book all of the days?

What do you think?

we will be travelling from 11th of june to 26.

Its never possible to make and follow a strict plan. You just need a start and an end point. On the road, many things will make your plan fail, like a missed train, full hostels, fight with a friend and even fall in love with a hot chick

You dont have to book your hostel 1 week prior, but if you make a reservation for the train make sure you will not end up on the streets…

I was just about to post the same question. We’ll be travelling in the end of july/the beginning of August. which is, what I suppose is high season in the south of Europe. I’d be glad if anyone could give us a hint of how the availibility among hostels etc are at that time? Smile

Pete, go hostelworlds.com and search Prague, they got about 3 really really good ones there (if you search by ratings), I plan on staying at Sant Jordi Prague Florenc, just opened like 2 months ago! I too am going to Krakow, if I find a good one I will let you know. Wink

Edit: I will be in Krakow/Prague at the beginning of September as well! I will look into hostels and give you my thoughts if your interested.
