I am very excited about San Fermin and my first encierro.

I got hotel reservations at Occidental Leyre hotel, I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight into the hotel (what it is like, how close it is to the running and plaza de toros).

I am taking a train from Barcelona and will be there in Pamplona for 5 days and plan on running a few times at least.

I have so many questions and so forth. I hope discussion of the festival gets a little more lively the closer it gets.

go illini

let destroy those stinkin Badgers tonight.

Hi krush

If I may ask, how much did your plane ticket cost? I will also be there (flying from DC to Barcelona, train to Pamplona, and then Madrid back to DC), and the fares I’ve seen so far are ridiculous.

I also need to reserve a room and get my railpass as well :o)

Thanks

I am flying for O hare in chicago to madrid and then on to Barcelona and coming back the same way.

I pain 920.00 for airfare on Iberia.

good luck with hotel hostel reservations, that is the most difficult part of the trip to san fermin. It took me months to get exactly what I wanted and I am paying out the ying yang for my hotel room, but I dont care.

I booked my room through travelosity.

and a travel agent is getting my train fair, she told me you can only resevre for the train 60 days out. not before

Hi,

I live in the states if you want to give me a call or have me call you I can fill you in about the fiesta. I have been going for a number of years. First I want to say that the city center is different from the old quarter. The Old quarter is where the party takes place. So any of you looking for a place and they tell you they are near the city center make sure you look it up on a map as you can end up being pretty far from the heart of things.

I have stayed at this hotel. It is perfect as far as location goes. You are lucky you were able to get a room there. It is just a few blocks from the Plaza de Toros. It is nice and has a lift. A lot of the penas stay there during san fermin. It is a 5 minute walk to Plaza castillo and 5-6 to the start of the run (the town hall square)

If you would like to reserve a balcony for either the opening ceremony or to watch the run one morning let me know as I still have spaces available. You can reach me at amplonaadventuretours@animas.net”>pamplonaadventuretours@animas.net

I will email you and ask more questions, I dont know if I am wanting to get a balcony, I do want to run and am reading books and studing the internet alot right now and have been for close to 5 months now. How do ya think I got the Leyre, It was not my first choice, but it turns out that La Perla is undergoing renovations and will not be open during the festival, which floored me. I mean a place like that with the history of Hemmingway and all would close for the festival, but when I called them for reservations that is what they told me. I think I actually emailed you guapa for info about your stuff a few months ago, but I really wanted to get a hotel room and that worked out well. I would also love to meet up with you and others on your trip for churros and chocolate or drinking or whatever. I hope to meet a lot of people there.

I will check out your site again and go over your info. I just bought my second book on the festival today and it should come tommorrow, it is one of your books you recommended I believe, the second one. I have also read most of a book by gary gray I think his name is the penn st. prof or something like that, pretty cool.

I will get at you some time in the future for more info though and lots of questions.

thanks for the opportunity to pump you for info Smile

oh and go illini, lets destroy the Spartans

I think it had more to do with luck than with all your studying. I tried to reserve rooms there for several years and they were always booked by the penas. You will enjoy it there.

The La Perla has been saying that for years and they are open every San Fermin. If you get a room on the run (the only hotel that has rooms with balconies on the run) it is nice except for the constant noise. A room on Plaza Castillo is even louder. Most of the rooms are shared bathrooms and it is nice to be able to say that I have stayed there, but I prefer a place that is a little quieter for sleeping during the day. The only thing you are missing by not staying there is a balcony.

There are a lot of people that stay there year after year some real characters. You’ll often find them drinking at the winsor the bar next door.

My best advise is find someone that has run before and ask them to walk the run with you. This is probably the best thing you can do for yourself if you plan to run.

The first day is always crazy as well as the weekend. Last year on the first day they estimated some 8500 people run. I was working in the barriers taking photos and there was a sea of non stop heads. I couldn’t believe it. The runs are getting more and more dangerous due to crowd size. There were a lot of gorings last year and I attribute those mostly to not being able to get out of the way due to the large amount of runners.

There is a great Churro shop right off of Mercaderes on a street called Manuleta. They are only open in the morning and there is a long line.

This is also my first time to Pamplona. At 40 years old, I have dreamed of it for many years. After my fiance backed out of our wedding just before the ceremony last year, I decided that it is time to just take time for me. Therefore, I am making several of my long-held dreams come true – like San Fermin. Now, my friend is now backing out of the trip after I have booked my flight and hotel room at Hotel Blanca de Navarra. I will either need to find someone to split hotel expenses or cancel the hotel room and find something less expensive. Does anyone know anything about this hotel? I will be there from July 5th until July 9th. Anyone else going solo that wants to meet up and show me around or explore together? Finally, any other suggestions for a first-timer? Feel free to email me at khallamore2@netscape.net.
