Still loads awfully slowly for me.
Am I the only one? I use Firefox, and don’t have this problem with other sites.

I have done the first wave of updates to speed up the site. It should be faster than it was, but I still have to do another set of updates (hopefully in a week or two) to speed it up even more.

btw, is it any specific pages? or is it all pages?

I have the Forums page (all forums) bookmarked, and that’s usually what I am trying to open up.
ya, right now that page takes about 5 seconds to load because of a couple queries that are really beefy. i have tried to rewrite them to speed up that page, but it is still not nearly as fast as i want it. hopefully i will be able to get to speeding that up more…

That page takes almost exactly 60 seconds to load for me. That’s an improvement over the minute and a half it took in the past.
Thanks Will~~
Thanks Will~~I’ll try to work around things…it’s not the end of the world.
Internet connection speed doesn’t seem to matter much. It takes 60 seconds for the forum page to load on my satellite connection and about 62 seconds on the dial-up. It took 57 seconds with the cable modem at my niece’s.
ya it is pretty consistent because the majority of the speed issue is in processing and look up on the server side. i am going to be addressing that shortly, but i have a few things on my plate that need to get taken care of before it can get much of my time.

thanks again for the feedback btw, it is always helpful.

the forum pages all still load terribly slow… to the point where my friends won’t use the website.
Load times are borderline unacceptable

example: 20 seconds to load the main forum page

Thanks for the feedback guys. I’m getting into contact with our team and hopefully we’ll get this taken care of.

I have speed up the loading of the first page when you log in by over 200%, so that is a start.
I am still trying to resolve the front page of the forum problem. That is the worst page on the site for load times. This is because of the amount of queries needed to get all the ‘new posts and comments’ for your user. I am looking at options to try to reduce the load time of that page. The rest of the site loads reasonably fast…

I was having loading issues also but today it seems to be better. One thing though, what happened to my “contributions”? Under my dashboard only 3 of the threads are listed now. Weird.
Haha, nice catch…
I changed ‘My Contributions’ so that it only shows what you have added in terms of ‘Favorite Places’, ‘Travel Tips’, ‘Directory Links’ and ‘Eurotrips’. I took the ‘Forum Topics’ out of that list. I did that because people who are very active in the forum had 100s of pages of ‘My Contributions’ and they were suffering from very slow speeds when they logged in and were getting page timeouts because of the size of that view. By removing the forum topics from that view the page loads twice as fast, so I figured that was worth it.

Just a note. Instead of using the ‘Front Page of the Forum’ to see what is new, you may want to use the ‘Unread Activity’ link on the right hand side. This is all the unread activity for your user in one list and it is 100s times faster to load. I can put additional information in that view if you want it (like the forum it is posted in for example).

Alright… I have rolled out an optimized version of the front page of the forum. On my machine, it has reduced the load time of that page from 24 seconds down to 3.5 seconds. I know this is still a little slower than what we would ideally want, but it is a good step in the right direction. I will look into improving it more next week, but this at least gets us out of the weeds.
Let me know if there are other pages that are really slow for you and I can look into them.
