So I’m looking at all the options for public transit in London and I couldn’t find this anywhere… I’m curious if the different transit passes (Travelcard, Oyster, etc) work by the hour, or midnight to midnight? In other words, if you buy a 3 day Travelcard is it good from the second you buy it until 3 days later, or from the beginning of THAT day to 3 days later?

Thanks but they don’t specifically address what I wanna know

Also, since I’m thinking about it, does anyone know how long the “round trip” ticket you can get on the express train from Stansted airport is good for?

The last time I used the tube (before the Oyster Card technology) it was a solid 24hrs. I think it’s safe to assume that this we’ll be the case as it would be ridiculously unfair if it wasn’t.

I’m pretty sure a London travelcard isn’t valid for 24 hours, it’s only valid for a day or rather until 4:30 AM the next day. So if you bought a travelcard at 10 AM today it’d be valid until 4:30 AM tomorrow and no later. If you bought it at 2 PM it’d still be valid until 4:30 AM tomorrow.

I don’t know about London, but I found Esther’s experience to be true with a lot of other transit systems. The system usually doesn’t run at all in the wee hours of the morning and the 1st train becomes the “next day.”

Damn. Well I guess I’ll just have to find any excuse possible to use the pass to get my money’s worth
