I wish there was an easier way to tell whether something new has been posted to a thread. Sure, there is the “new” label, but I am lazy. Is there any way to use a different color for threads with new posts (like the old board had)?
It’s looking great so far. much more modern. Still takeing a bit of getting use to and finding how to navigate the site. Yeah agree would be great to get an easier way to differ between old and new thread’s. So look forward to that
alright, i have added some new functionality that now allows you to easily see all the new activity in the forum.
in the top right, you will see a block that says “Forum Activity”, the bottom link in that block is “Unread Activity”. when you click on Unread Activity it will take you to a view of all of the topics that have activity that you have not seen. when you click on one of the topics, it will take you to the new content for that topic (so if there are 7 comments and 2 are new it will put comment 6 at the top of your screen).
if there are 20 (arbitrary number) topics that you have not read, but you dont want to go through them all because they do not interest you, you can use the ‘Mark all forums read’ at the top of the front page of the forum. this will clean out your unread activity screen.
this should allow you to browse what is new very easily. let me know if you have questions.
note: if you had tried this before today, it was not working. it is now fixed…
alright, so this is working, but may not be quite as complete is we may like. it works to show all the new forum activity, but in order to speed up the site, all the views (aggregations of already existing content) are being cached. this means that it will only be updated to add new activity every 15 minutes (or something like that).
i would recommend using it when you log in to get caught up and then once you have gotten through them all, take a final look at the forum home page to make sure you are not missing anything.
ya its a big change and it is has been a long time in coming.
thanks again for all the feedback and help testing when we were in the alpha stage, it made a big difference.
