I’ve got an idea (uh-oh… watch out).
How about if you’re new here, reply to this post with a simple "up" or "topping" to bring it to the top. That way, we know if you have read it or not
— not to say that topping this message is prerequisite for receiving help, but sometimes it’s just really obvious, and those type of requests might be overlooked

Don,
You seem to know a lot about traveling to Europe. I am trying to plan a trip out there. I have no idea where to start, where to go, or anything. I am a female and will be traveling alone. If you can give me any adivse, I would really appreciate it. I plan to leave in April/May 2004 but my options are completely open. Can you help?
Thanks,
Carrie
Post this also as a new thread on Eurotrip’s Favourite Places forum.
A few questions to help your trip take shape:
1. What are your interests? Art, architecture, history, family roots, partying, pubs, etc.
2. What is your budget—including airfare?
3. What style traveller are you: backpacker—hostels, grocery stores, pack light, live well frugally while travelling (most young Europeans travel this way, BTW); or, hotels, fancy dinners, taxis, etc.
Check out some travel books and/or videos at a library near you. Frommers, Fodors, Lets Go, and Rick Steves series are all good. Fodors aims at a more affluent traveller than the typical backpacker; Lets Go more for uni students on gap year travels; Rick Steves for 30-ish crowd but with many frugal and wise Eurotravel insights; Frommers sort of between Rick Steves and Fodors — all of this is just IMHO. These will help you gauge places of interest and costs, and offer good advice for things not to miss.
Read, think and then post your questions on the Eurotrip forums for more specific help with hostels, flights, packing, etc. Good luck!

Hi,
I would like to travel from London to Salzburg on the 11th of March 2004 (10th or 12th are also adjustable). 10 days ago, I saw free fares on RyanAir, but at that time, my dates were not fixed due to other itenary problems. But now all those seats seem to have been filled.
For my dates, is there a chance for such low fares being offered again? Or, should I be better off to book for whatever price is available now.
Thanks for the advice.
Here are some travel sites with great opportunities:
www.etn.nl/discount/ (list of low cost airlines)
www.lastminute.com (list of great price oportunities on hotels)
PS-Stop putting up up up if you don’t have any question to make!
…a newbie doing my part.

Dammit people. I’m ‘bout ready to smack around some bee-otches. It is often QUITE obvious that sometimes people wander onto this forum and want everyone else to do all of the fare hunting for them. If I got paid, I might consider it. This is a volunteer endeavour, so we’ll point you in the right direction, but I can’t book it for you, nor can I do much hand-holding. In fact, too much hand-holding on an internet help forum means you’re likely not yet equipped to handle yourself in a foreign country.
There, I feel better now….

I want to know, For the first time, I am planning a trip to France in April 2005. Is it going to be cheaper for my boyfriend and I to join a tour group or should we do France on our own. We speak French so no problem with the language. We want to see the historic sites. We are working class and it will take us a year to save. Is it better to do a week or 2 weeks?
Hi skcoach,
I am also planning on going to France in April of 2005 as part of a 3 1/2 week European Tour…I was originally going to do a package deal where everything is "
lanned" for you , but I found the tours
restrictive and you had to abide mostly to their schedule.
My recommendation is to read the many posts on this site and make your own decision. I never considered staying in a Hostel or Budget hotel before until I became a member of this site….You can save soooooooooooooo much money by staying in establishments that don’t have all the "Bells and Whistles"…I don’t need to have a fancy lobby or indoor swimming pool…just a clean bed in a centrally located area that is not too far from the sites…
I look forward to doing "April in Paris"…
PS…Where are you from….I was born in Montreal, but currently reside in Toronto.
Greetings Don,
First I want to say that I’m glad to come across your website, since I’ve been surfing the net to find good deals in reaching Austria. I need to cross that Alantic Ocean from Oklahoma City and reach my destination around August this year. I plan to spend at least three weeks. I’m willing to find other deals to get me anywhere in Europe, and I’ll acquire a Three-Week Europass to get to my preferred destination in Linz.
Things are getting so desperate, I’m even willing to go the Marcel Duchamp method: a Dada artist who got so bored with America, he bought a row boat and was going to row himself back to Europe. Of course that was the last recorded time that he was ever seen again. I, however, don’t want to dissappear, but I might consider flying in a plane with ducktape on the wings and have a penguin, who’s been drinking, at the cockpit. And we all know penguins can’t fly. "Welcome to Hindenburg Airlines where our motto is ‘OH THE HUMANITY!’"
I am in no way asking for anyone to hunt down fares for me; I’m a big enough boy to take care of myself, although mentally I’m only three and a half years old. I get my references and wit mostly from watching cartoons. I’ll be checking in from time to time, but if anyone has any advice or wants to say, "Look here moron," please post a message addressed to me. I thank all of you for your patience and understanding, and remember that "I am not a crook."
Don et el.
I am looking to fly from Los Angeles to Madrid (June 24, 2004) and then out of Rome back to LA (July 11).
I’ve looked up all the major travel sites and the best fare I can find is USD1,200. Any suggestions?
I am open to flying into and out of other airports on the same dates as long as I can connect into any major city in Spain and out of any major city in Italy.
Best Regards
V
