Ya I know about that. That is a little bug that for now I am willing to live with. Basically what is happening is the ‘new’ posts and comments is a very close approximation now (it is only possible for it to show more than there actually are). Apparently one of the threads in forums is ‘unpublished’, but I can’t figure out which one it is (I haven’t looked that hard).

Because these counts were so expensive to show on the load of the front page of the forum, I have rewritten the queries a little so I only have to join 2 tables instead of 5. This has improved the load time of the front page of the forum by about 2-3 seconds, but that is the unfortunate side affect. What I should do is run a bunch of queries to figure out what thread is causing the problem and just fix that thread, but I have not gotten around to it yet.
