I liked being able to see how many views a thread has, so I can gauge what type of new info to post. For example, if I post west coast USA to Europe airfare specials, and only gets 3 views a week, but midwest to Europe gets 50 views a week, I’d spend more time where it seems most helpful to people. If I post news about low-cost airlines in Europe and it gets 8 views after a week, then I know it’s probably not going to bring in new and repeat viewers to the forum as much as other subjects might. Whaddaya think?

The “airlines you’ve never heard of” and “50 airfare booking sites” threads on Cheap Flights had, I believe, the most.

alright, i have added the number of times each thread has been read to every topic. you will notice that in the action bar of the initial post there is now a new thing that reads “# reads”. this is the number of times someone has come and read that thread.

i think this is a good start on the functionality that you need because you have access to the raw numbers, however it probably does not give you the best mechanism for understanding the numbers since you have to view each thread independently to see the traffic it has received. i am not sure how often you look at the different threads, but it may be best for you to be able to see a list of the forums (similar to the Recently Popular view) that allows you to see how many reads each thread has gotten specifically in your Cheap Flights forum.

if this is of interest to you, i can make a view for you so that you can track how many reads each thread in cheap flights has.

if you think this may be interesting for other forums as well, i could maybe build a module that would allow the moderator of a forum to add (with a checkbox) the threads they want to track to a view, and all those threads would show up in a separate list with stats so you could see how they were doing against each other. this would take a bit of time to build, but if you think it would be valuable i can add it. if you have other suggestions that you think would make things easier for you to track what you need to, just let me know…
