Page Numbers

Show page numbers at the top of pages as well as the bottom. User won’t have to scroll down to get to next page of posts. http://eurotrip.com/…
Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, and end up getting charged double.

I have made two changes to improve functionality for this:
1. As you have requested, I have added the page numbers at the top of the forum post so that you can jump to any of the pages without scrolling to the bottom of the post.
2. There was a bug when you clicked on the ‘new’ link for topics that had multiple pages and new comments on the last page. What used to happen when you clicked on ‘new’ is that it would just take you to the first page of that thread and you would have to navigate to the last page to see the new comments (boring…). I have fixed this bug so that it will now take you to the appropriate page and then center the page at the correct new comment.
cheers and thanks for pointing this out…

When I go to “Recent Activity” page and click on a topic title, it brings me to the first post of the thread. Then I have to manually scroll down and/or go to the following page(s) to see any new posts. Wouldn’t it be logical if clicking on the title would just direct to the first unread post or something like that?
it seems logical that clicking on ‘new’ would, not sure about a view like that because people may not be following the thread and may just want to read it all. i guess since it is the ‘recent activity’ view it would imply that people are following it. let me think about that one and see if that is reasonably easy to do…
thanks for the feedback…

Well, then you could have a button next to the title, like “new” or “last page”.
i checked into this and here is my current situation with that. i am not filtering that view to distinguish if it has new content because it is simply a list of threads that have been commented on the most recently. if i want to add the filter for if there is new content, then you basically just have the same view as ‘Unread Activity’ and that kind of defeats the purpose. if you are looking for the threads that have changed or have new content that you have not read, you should be using the ‘Unread Activity’ view.
i dont think this functionality should change since there is already a feature that has been built solely for the purpose of keeping up to date with the newest activity in all threads… it does not make sense that we would add the extra processing time of making a different view for every user for ‘Recently Active’ since that view should be the same for all users.

The numbers show after the initial post rather than the top of the page.

i know, that is by design. the reason is because that is the initial post and the comments are in response to that post. that initial post shows up as the first item on all of the pages, so it makes sense that your paging would be below that post and above the comments since the area below the page numbers is what changes when you navigate between pages…

Oh, good idea. When you make a post on a 2nd or 3rd page and click submit, the page refreshes on the first page. Would you want it to refresh to the same page the post was made?

I had not thought of that. I guess that does seem to make sense. Should it also jump to the comment that you just posted?
I can look into this if we think that would be valuable.

That might not be a bad idea either.
