Poland to Romania

I am going to be traveling from Warsaw to Bucharest in June. I want to stop in Slovakia but I do not want to travel out of my way to Bratislava. All the info I find about Slovakia is about Bratislava. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions of where would be a good place to visit. Also I will be traveling on trains. Thanks
I am leaving from New York with $2000 for 19 days

Well if you like rugged mountain scenery, the High Tatras — Poprad is kind of the center of the area.
Thanks for the idea. Do you know the best way to get there from Krakow? Also do you have any suggestions of places to stay or things that are must see or must do.

About Slovakia: Please specify what interests you more, beautiful natural sceneries, or old architecture, spas, caves, lakes, or anything else? Eastern Slovakia has all this, and since I was born there, I’ll tell you more if you tell me what you are interested in.
There is a direct train from Krakow through eastern Slovakia to Romania, with direct 1st class, 2nd class and bed cars running between Krakow and Bucuresti. The only problem is that it’s a seasonal train and starts running on the night of June 18/19, then daily till the end of August. The whole trip takes precisely 24 hours and 10 minutes.
Timetable: Fast train No 1370 “Cracovia”
Krakow Glowny 22:45
Prešov 4:41-4:42
Košice 5:11-5:40
Miskolc Tiszai pu 7:00-7:03
Szolnok 9:27 9:28
Bucuresti Nord Gr. A 23:55
Most of the train goes to Bulgarian seaside resorts like Varna and Burgas.
Let me know of the date when you plan to travel.
If you have any questions about Prague or Czech and Slovak republics, ask me.
If you only want to search train or bus connection within Czech&Slovakia and/or to neighboring countries, use www.cp.sk or www.idos.cz search engines. For domestic transport, they also show prices.
Hey Papyr,
Thanks for the help. I will be traveling May 27Th through June 13Th. I will be going from Poland to Romania and figured I could stop in Slovakia for a little. Spas do not do anything for me. I do like old architecture and nice scenery. I also heard from many people that the Tetra mountains are amazing. If the train will not be running while I am there can you suggest a better itinerary or a different way to travel. I am open to any suggestions.

Papyr,
Do you think I should rent a car or go by bus or train. You are very knowledgeable about this area and I would like to hear what you think the best solution is. Should I skip Slovakia or go through Ukraine? Thanks for any help
