Problems with British Airways

Don, OldLady,
I am hoping to pick your brains as I am stuck with a strange problem.
My return was scheduled for Feb 16th from LHR to EWR. Ticket validity is 1 year. Expiry date would have been Dec 16th, 2009.
Around Feb 5th, I had to schedule a visit to India so I called BA for extension of my ticket which didn’t come out to be economical.
I didn’t tell them explicitly to cancel or reschedule my return booking.
I proceeded to India and returned 2 weeks back.
Today I called BA to reschedule a return on Thursday or Friday and they told me they have deleted me from their system as I did not call to cancel my booking. They don’t even have a record of me in their system. Now they tell me that my ticket is no longer valid and I have to purchase a new ticket.
What options do I have?
I just don’t want to buy another new ticket and go through the pain of looking for a new ticket.
Please advice
I am leaving from US and traveling for 11 days

I have the same issue with AirIndia for two other tickets and they have absolutely no problems in rescheduling my iternery.
What can I do with BA?

Don’s has been out of the loop for a few days, but I’ve seen some posts from him, so maybe he’ll catch this. I’m not sure I can be much help.
Since you’ve already contacted BA with no luck, I don’t see any option other than to buy a new ticket. You could try talking to/writing to everyone you possibly can at BA to see if someone might bump you to a person who can actually help you. I would definitely have your story written out, in detail, to send/read to people so there aren’t any glitches caused by folks knowing part, but not all, of the story.
I’d contact your credit card company to see if they can help you work out anything in terms of refund or credit on the original purchase of the ticket.

Thanks for the response. I tried to fight out with BA along with my travel agent also doing the same.
They basically pronouced me as a NO SHOW.
I want to complain to someone and really angry of losing the ticket. I ended up buying a brand new ticket.
Is there any place I can put up a complaint?
Credit Card idea is an excellant idea? I am going to try it.

No, I have lost the ticket for no fault of mine. BA keeps blaming the Travel agent and the Travel agent keeps blaming BA.
Fault is mine for not keeping a track of the confirmation or asking for a confirmation number.
Is there anyway to get compensation or atleast a voucher?
I had to buy a ticket from Virgin at the airport and this is really sickening.
