What’s all the fuss? Must be a slow news cycle. Or maybe Jesse Jackson thought he could extort some money by having a “summit” and agree to a $100,000 donation to his “rainbow coalition” to calm things down. Which is it this time?

It’s just like Jimmy “The Greek” all over again…  Don Imus may be a pompous ole man, and a jerk…  However, he did nto say anything that was not painfully & obviously true.  Those carpet-munching BBallers do indeed look like female thugs & ho’s.  What’s with the tatoo’s,,, you’re in college (supposedly going to class) fawchrisake!

But yeah… a lot of fuss about nothing, if you ask me. He’s just another idiot with a radio program. Who cares? Does he need to interview prostitutes and hookers and talk about boners for 5 hours before he’s allowed to get away with goofy racial comments? Oh wait, someone else already has the market cornered on that one, nevermind [8D]

And then the “Reverand” Al Sharpton shows-up, as is he is some sort of spokeman for Nappy-Headed, Lesbian, College players, etc…  Where is he when rappers are defending their lyrics about ALL women being Beatchhes, Ho’s, Slut’s, and such?

Even Stern, who doesn’t like Imus, supposedly said he’s acting like a coward and not standing up to his critics who are calling for his resignation. I used to listen to Imus when I lived in the States, and it doesn’t surprise me he said this, but looking at the big picture (or listening to the big… whatever), I don’t think the man’s racist. His remark was racial, but not racist. If Al Sharpy said I was a straight-hurred honky mo, I wouldn’t be offended (maybe because I am?!). I guess I’m just too white and nerdy (look at me I’m white and nerdy…).

Exactly, worse things are said everyday. This is like “nipplegate” all over again. Unfortunately the Iranians freed their Brit hostages and now there was nothing going on in the news.

For reference ‘cause I wasn’t sure what it meant either.

MB:  Because most black people still consider themselves severely “repressed”, and still believe whole-heartedly that they are owed something BIG TIME for slavery.  They think they would be better-off in Africa – battling starvation, a 70% AIDS rate, and genocide.  There has always been sort of an “un-written” rule in Radio & TV Journalism (I have worked in the field) that allows for African Americans to belittle, use slang, and down-right make fun of White’s, because of the way many blacks were treated 100 years ago.

Blacks are allowed, and even encouraged to hold “black only” contests, black only colleges, and this is not seen as a violation of ANYONE’S Constitutional rights.  However, it is impossible to hold an “Irish American”, or Caucasian American contests, etc. - without allowing blacks to enter, etc.  It’s defiantely a double-standard.  I have heard many times on the radio – black DJ’s using terms like “cracker”, “honky”, “Uncle Tom”, or white fool – without getting so much as a slap on the wrist.

That half-wit (Mayor Nagin) is another piece of work!  That guy is an even bigger, dumber version of many other politicians in this country.  He is the biggest moron of all – on this Hurricane Katrina fiasco.  Not only did the City of N. Orleans, and the State of LA have funding already in-place, they were supposed to have an updated SOP, complete with evacuatiion procedures, routes, etc.  Most of all; they should have used common sense, getting as many people out of the City (they had 72 hrs notice, and only needed to drive 50 or 60 miles North) – on the City Transpo and School busses, instead of letting the sit (half or fully fueld) under water, and sending the poor folks (mostly black) to the Superdome.  They dropped the ball on this hurricane about as badly as the German police & Security forces botched the 1972 Olympics in Munchen.  Of course, Mayor Nagin blamed Bush and every white person in Washington, DC…  Ahh, hello numb-nuts…  You are sitting 500 yards from the coast, a storm is coming, and everyone is telling you the current levee system will not hold-up to a Cat4, much less a Cat5 storm…  Get your dumb arses out of town!

Mayor Nagin’s finger-pointing, deflection of blame, and whining is no surprice.  He is such a phony to begin with, it’s sickening.  Prior to Mayor Nagin’s run for the Mayoral seat a few years back, he was indeed a Republican.  All his rich/close friends – were, and still are – WHITE PEOPLE…   He only ran on the Democratic ticket, because he knew only a Democrat would win in that Parish.

Most people ‘round here actually blame Gov Blanco more than Nagin, she publicly refused government and national guard’s help just after the storm passed, supposedly before the levees broke (but the place was still f’ed up enough to use it, not that she could know).  She also refused to run for a second term, rumor is because of the investigations into how relief money was spent (a lot of people think she stole from it).  I don’t know how the hell Nagin got re-elected.
Here is a very interesting documentary that came out not long ago about the governmental fuck up and supposed racism following Katrina: http://www.jonhs.net/freemovies/big_easy_to_big_empty.htm
I think most of it is legit.  I wasn’t aware of the contracted out emergency evac. plans, but I suppose its true.  But the guy is wrong about the woman not being allowed into her “home”.  1. The “home” doesn’t belong to her 2. There is a huge problem with toxic levels of mold, that is why people are barred from entering.  Oh, and although bourbon st. and the french quarter tourist areas were back in business immediately, they were virtually unscathed, only a few inches of water- naturally high ground (not a conspiracy against black people).

Yeah, we heard those rumors all over the radio- shooting at cops and helicopters, but I never found out if it was fact or rumor, I would assume rumor.

It was absolutely miserable spending that first week without electricity in 100 degree temperatures (not to mention this state’s insane humidity), but at least I had shelter and, more importantly, SHADE.  Honestly, if I had to sit on a tar roof in direct sunlight for 5 days with no food or water, I would want to shoot at the next mf’er that claimed to be an “emergency” responder.

There were some articles in the newspaper about one person in general who was trying to rescue people with his boat.  When he started getting shot at, he quit trying.

Roseanne said something a while ago that made total sense, and she apologized later for the remark. Although, I don’t think she should have, because she was right.

The jist of the comment was that gays only care for themselves. They only care about GAY rights, and getting fairness for GAYS, and not for everyone else. She was saying you’ll never see gay leaders fighting for black rights, and vice-versa. All these black women are never going to fight for Gay rights, or Mexican rights, or Alien Rights, or what have you.

I’m glad Roseanne brought this up, because it is one of the most true statements I have EVER heard. (by the way, I’m gay, so I’m not bashing or anything).

I’m not saying this applies to EVERYONE. Because it doesn’t. I care about everyone’s rights. Personally I think we gays have enough rights. I think the stupidest invention ever is a “gay charity”. Like seriously, charities are for poor people, homeless people, and for stuff that NEEDS funding, like medical research.

I think it was Dateline that had an interview with about 8 New York black women. These ladies are standing up and fighting for the rights of these “poor, tormented souls of the basketball team”. Yet, these women live in New York City, in SoHo and Greenwich apartments. They were all loaded. The one mother was a doctor, and her daughter attended a “prestigious private school” according to the interviewer (also black). Would you ever see these women giving to the homeless and setting up charities for for homeless? well, maybe, but right now they’re more focused on all the tormented black people that for some reason ALL (and they said ALL) face oppression. Give it up ladies.

I think the reaction would have been very very VERY different had Imus been a black man. We all know it. And it would have been different if black man was saying something about a white man. Everyone knows it. People need to get overthemselves. I find Imus hilarious most of the time, even when he makes a gay joke. I can take a joke. But maybe that’s just me. Of course, I never had ancestors that were enslaved, so I have no one to blame.

P.S. – If Imus was fired so fast, why wasn’t Isaiah Washington fired from Grey’s Anatomy just as fast? Because it was a gay remark, and because he’s black. If Patrick Dempsey had’ve said it, the backlash would be very VERY different.

Because Imus made a remark that could have been taken as racist.  Racism/discrimination is against the law.  Race is a protected category as is religeon, familial status(single, married), etc.  Personally the comment was between him and the Rutgers team and has been blown way out of proportion.

To counter your black remark, this wouldn’t have been as issue if a black guy said the same thing about some white girls.  The backlash would indeed be very VERY different.  There would be none.

Addressing your Isaiah Washington remark.  Being gay is not a protected status.  Whether you agree with IW’s remark or not, he has the right to express his opinion if he doesn’t break the law.  That’s another comment that has been blown out of proportion.  (See Trent Lott’s comment as well.)

If you’re going to be out of the main stream and run your own life, you’ve got to be ready to take the heat.  You wrote that different groups only look out for themselves.  Not only do gays want to look out for their special interest, they want approval as well.  Sorry, not gonna’ happen.  Do what you want to, I don’t have to agree.

Dee:  Of course it would have been different if Imus were black.  The entire Hip-Hop and rap industry has taken in an estimated 3 billion dollars since 1991 – without EVER referring to the female gender as anything but:  Beaatches, Ho’s, Sluts, Nitwits, and usless pieces of dung….  Yet, Hillary will take their money without blinking an eye.

I respect most of that. And yes, it does make sense. And you’re right, most gays (and MOST, not all) want complete approval. I don’t care if someone hates me, it would just be nice if they weren’t so vocal. And just because what Washington wasn’t illegal doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be fired

Nappy-headed ho means rough/tough/gangsta girls. In the context of how it was said, it was funny and irreverant. The black opportunists, who blew this whole thing way out of proportion, know that.

One the one hand, I respect Imus for not pushing back after he was fired; the alternative was to make a quiet $100,000 donation to Jesse Jackass’s “rainbow cult” or whatever, and this whole thing would have gone away* (as similar events have gone in the past), but Imus probably realized that would’ve been empowering a greater injustice. (*Yes, that’s extortion).

On the other hand, I wish he had stuck up for the First Amendment, and turned this into an intelligent debate; but once you get JJ and Al Shatton involved, fairness and justice seem to disappear, or at least get redifined in terms that favor only them (and not necessarily “the black community” which they claim to represent, but don’t).
