Re post..Booking flight for May 2010 Bos-Bud
Mon, 08/31/2009 - 22:22
Hi Don,
How are you doing? I don’t know if you remember me. I have been a member here for years. I have not been on here for a long while. I’m planning to going back to Hungary late May 2010. You were always such a wonderful help here! I remember years ago Tricia was here too! Do you ever here from her? I’m hoping to get my airline ticket very soon, as I would like to bring pieces of luggage with me for FREE! A friend who works at AAA has warned me, that AAA thinks before this year is out all airlines will be charging for 2nd piece. This will include international flights too. Some may even start charging for the first piece also.
To me $50.00’s each way is out rageous to have to pay. Is under $700.00’s a good price for Late May 2010? I found a flight last night for about $685. I sure hope I didn’t miss out on a good deal. I just worry, what if the airline goes under. I would not be able to even get a refund from my Credit card due to booking a flight this far out… Is there a way to find out what airline is being used, when they don’t list one? I reallly would like to know which airline I’m using. There are certain airlines I won’t book with, because they already only allow one piece of free luggage. These are a couple of them, United and North West.. Do you know any other airlines that are already charging for 2nd piece for international flights? Thank you so much for any help. Alizka
I am leaving from Boston with $2700 for 39 days
Hey guys and gals I’m back on here again! Sure missed everyone.. I hope Don is still here! I’m hoping to go to Hungary again in may 2010! Alizka

Yes I remember. I haven’t been in touch with Tricia for years. She was the original cheap flights guru here on Eurotrip back in the ’90s.
$685 is a very good price for BOS-BUD outbound in May. I would shop first on price, then once you’ve narrowed it down to 1, 2, or 3 cheapest airlines, then look at those airlines’ bag fees to compare the “real” prices for your trip. The reason is that nearly every week it seems that another airline is adding fees, so even the charts and guides that you can download from sites like Smartertravel (last updated June 29) are already missing some new fees that have been added.
I did a quick check for you, May14-June24, and found Swiss ($659 booked from Swiss.com) and KLM ($669 booked from ATIflights.com) cheapest. Comparing their bag fees, looks like KLM still offer 2 pieces up to 23kgs each: http://www.klm.com/t… Swiss looks like they also currently allow 2 × 23kgs for transatlantic flights: http://www.swiss.com…
I normally wouldn’t advise booking this far in advance, but these are very good prices—outbound just before full peak-season pricing starts, and staying more than 30 days — and with fuel and bag fees in flux, I think it’s a very good bet to go ahead and book either this KLM or Swiss ticket and then relax and focus on other aspects of your trip.

Hi again Don,
It’s so nice to see that you are still here. You have been such a wonderful help over the years. So many new folks here now. That’s nice to see. but I sure hope the there are some old ones here too. I did see old Lady! Good to see her too.Thank you so much for your help! I’ll have to keep checking, to see if that price comes back again, as it is gone now! Now it’s about $729.00 on KLM through ATIflights.com. That’s were I found the price I told you about. I searched ATI and can’t find where they post their rules and any extra fees. Do you know if they charge service fees or anything extra for tickets.
I’m hoping to go to Hungary From about the end of the last week in May “27Th-31ST” through July 7Th. Do you think KLM or Swiss airlines are a safe airlines in the sense that it will not go bankrupt? That is my main concern. Because I’m booking so far out, I will not have any protection through my Credit Card company I was told. Is it worth it to buy the insurance ATI sells? Also would going out of business be included in their insurance?Thany you so much for your help Don. And if anyone would like to jump in and help me with these questions. I would really appricate it so very much. Thanks again…Don, did you mean you remembered me too? Wasn’t sure.. Alizka

Well everyone, I never made to Europe in 2010..I ended up in ICU for 2 months In Feb. with spectic infection, I got from a shot I had in my knee to help with pain. When I was able to go home from the hospital rehab, I still needed Critical care for 4 more months with VNA. Then I had to go back in for another few weeks again for more surgery. That time for complete knee replacement and to clean up the bones in my left leg from the infection. I am learning to walk normally all over again! I am using a walker at this time. I am Thanking The Lord that I am still here. I Pray I can go to Hungary, Poland and Slovakia in May of 2011. I hope I am allowed to use my hanicap plaque over there. Good to be home and read all the great info here. Alizka..As KLM is the national Dutch airline, I feel pretty sure they aren’t going bankrupt anytime soon… that would like saying Delta or British Airways is going to cease operations or something. Swiss, I know less about, but they seem pretty popular as well. I think these are safe.
London, Salisbury, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh, Inverness, Edinburgh, London
Venice, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Sorrento, Rome
Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Bangkok
2008—Language study abroad in Paris, France
2009—Archaeological field school/dig in Lau, Fiji
2010— Birthday UK trip!
2011— Teaching English in South Korea
2012— ????
I would feel safe booking with either KLM (which have been merged with Air France over a year now) or Swiss (which came out of their own bankruptcy since 9-11, and are now part of Lufthansa).
I found the Swiss flight with Kayak, but it pointed direct to Swiss.com for booking it at that price.
ATI is just a seller — like Expedia, Orbitz, your local travel agent, etc. They do not set baggage allowances — the actual airline who you’re ticketed on sets the rules (in almost all cases), so that’s why I checked direct with KLM and Swiss for their transatlantic bag policies.
Also try your travel dates with Orbitz, since they have a good flexible date search—you could search outbound May 29 then choose +/- 2 days flexibility. Take the cheapest dates, and run it through BookingBuddy.com. Then add Airdeals and Tiss.com separately. That’s what I’d do, but even $729 is good for this itinerary.

I’m going to try to book my trip soon. I hope to find a good price within the next week. Wish me all the best
. I sure need it. Thank you again. Alizka
