I found a flight for 850 in July and August. Should I go ahead? That seems relatively cheap, but is $300 more than I paid last summer.

Last summer’s prices were an anomaly. You should snag this at $850. I can not guarantee it won’t be cheaper tomorrow—but can anyone?! Based on the relatively few sales covering summer 2010 so far, based on reduced capacity this yr. vs. last, based on higher demand coming from Europe, and based on typical summer transatlantic airfares from SFO, I say “buy.”

As Don said the sales so far this year have been quite limited – slow to materialize, rather limited in terms of where you can fly & narrow in date ranges, and not nearly as good as what we saw the last two years. Maybe airlines are waiting until the last minute to roll out good summer sales, but it could be that they won’t materialize on a large scale at all.
