T remember these jobs. One fond memory is the elevator operator. The building only had three floors.

Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, and end up getting charged double.

My employer phased out the elevator operator and replaced the controls with self-serve as each operator retired. Some elevators were self-serve and others had an operator for several years. Having one with operator and one without stop at the same time presented the dilemma of “I’d really rather do this myself and not have to talk to anyone, but I don’t want to insult the operator.”

When we lived in Denver, we always had a milkman. Even after the kids grew up, my spouse still liked to get it delivered (and we never ran out!)
