Skiing the Alps. When is best?

I am going to be in Europe around thanksgiving and I thought I might take a side trip to the alps and get some skiing in. But I am not sure when their ski season is. I know in the states november is pretty awsome in the rockies. So does anybody know if the slopes are open in november?

Slopes are def. open in November, I think some places offer year-round skiing.  Best skiing conditions is March/April, but November is also good since it’s not as busy & more fresh powder
