Small accessible town in Switzerland... Going in 3 days!
Sun, 09/25/2011 - 14:57
I’m in Munich currently for Oktoberfest. I’m trying to to go a smaller ( or any city that has hiking /nature trails), where I can get a cheap hostel, and is accessible with my eurorail Pass. I am open to any and all ideas.
Oh yea and I’m going in 3 days! Whoops

I like Interlaken.

Have you thought about Austria instead of Switzerland? There’s hiking near Innsbruck and in Salzburgerland (alpine backgrounds in The Sound of Music), both of which are much easier to get to from Munich than Switzerland. While not cheap, it should be cheaper in Austria than Switzerland.
I already have a eurorail ticket to Switzerland, so I have to go somewhere in there, but thanks.
Garda, a small remote village in southeast Switzerland. I don’t know if they have a hostel, but there was a pension that was reasonable.
But my first choice would be the mountain hostel in Gimmelwald above the Lauterbrunnen valley. Fabulous scenery, much hiking. http://www.mountainh…
However, at this time I would call ahead to check availability. Some places close at this time of year, then reopen for ski season.

Thanks so much guys, i will let you know what happens and where i go. Thanks again
I guess you’ve already left so it doesn’t matter, but I feel the need to point out that, having lived in Austria, I can attest that you don’t need your EURAIL pass to be valid in Austria to get to Salzburg from Munich. It is the first stop on the other side of the border, so your Germany pass is still valid.
I also agree that it makes more sense to go to Austria if you’re already in Munich (2 hours vs like 7) but that’s last minute planning for you, I guess
