Hello!

I am traveling to Europe for the first time in August for La Tomatina in Bunol, Spain. I am traveling with one other person. Our flight goes to Barcelona and our hotel is in Valencia.

What are my options to get from Barcelona to Valencia? What do you think is the best way (cheap and fast)?

Also, what do you think is the best way to go from Valencia to La Tomatina in Bunol?

Please help! Thank you…

For Barcelona to Valencia I would take the train. There’s some nice scenery, and the one train, the Euromed is a nice train. If you book ahead on the Renfe website (a pain in the a**) you can get good deals. Right now you can only book until August 16, but start looking into booking your tickets in the coming weeks. I would also take the train between Valencia & Bunol. It’s a local train, so I don’t think you can book ahead online. There’s some advice here: http://gospain.about…

I will be coming from the Barcelona airport. What would the name be when I’m choosing tickets from Barcelona?

Also, I looked up renfe on google and it came up with a website, but it keeps giving me an error everytime I try to book something. Is anyone else getting this problem?

Major trains don’t leave from Barcelona airport, so you’ll have to take the local train into the city center (the Sants train station) and depart for Valencia from there. You can’t access the local train schedule from the English Renfe site. You can’t book that train online and don’t need to anyways. I don’t know if you speak any Spanish, so don’t be insulted if these instructions seem too simple Smile To view the schedule follow this link: http://www.renfe.com… and then: 1. Click on “horarios” 2. Select “aeroport” where it says “origen” 3. Select “Barcelona Sants” under “destino” 4. Enter your date where it says “fecha” and remember day and month are done differently than in the U.S. (ex. tomorrow will be 17/06/09).

Not sure you had the right website, but you may have and it just was down or something. Booking online with Renfe can be an adventure, and selecting English on the homepage sends you to the English portal with limited route and fare options. I think the best way to purchase your Barcelona-Valencia ticket in English is to follow these steps, doing the first part in Spanish.

1) go to http://www.renfe.com
2) At the top left hand part of the page under where it says “Compra de Billetes” check the circle for either “Ida y Vuelta” (roundtrip) or “Ida” (one-way ticket).
3) Choose Barcelona() and then Valencia() from the drop down menus.
4) Enter your travel date(s) using the calendar where it says “Ida” under the box where you chose Valencia.
5) In the box that say “Num. Viajeros” enter how many tickets you want to buy.
6) click “Buscar”

A new window will open and in that new window you can select for English on the bottom left hand side of the page. You should then be able to complete the process in English, with access to those lower online special fares. If this doesn’t work post here and I’ll try to go through the process again.

That was a lot of help! Thank you for the step-by-step procedure. I don’t speak much Spanish so I definitely needed it!
