Stars and Posts
Tue, 03/13/2007 - 15:04
Guess they never fixed the number of posts. I still show with three stars instead of four and a few hundred less posts.
I also notice that we don’t show as moderators in the moderator forum. ???

Do you have less posts since we originally upgraded the site?
And, unfortunetly, the moderator tag only shows up when posting the forum that you are assigned to.

When the upgrade was made I had 4 stars and about 1750 posts. I see a lot of other people that lost posts and stars as well. Jboy lost 1 star and many posts. Cil lost lots of posts but no stars. They should be showing 3 stars for the number of posts they show. I think we both know they should have five stars. Inconsistent problem.
I like the way the moderator tag shows in only the forums we moderate. I’d like to see it show in the moderator forum as well.

Huh. [8|]
Very wierd. I will look into and let you know what I find out.

I lost about 9,000. Not bothered.

lol Don.
I really don’t remember how many posts I had to begin with.
Whatever. The upgrade is worth it.
You could just find or make a small picture with however many stars you want and use it in your sig instead of the astronaut. [

That wouldn’t fix the coding problem on the website.
One problem is the incorrect transfer of posts. This could be a problem reading the initial info. Another problem is the amount of stars associated with the posts. One person shows four stars with three star number of posts when they used to have five stars with a whole lot more posts. When these people hit a new level of stars, what’s going to happen then? More coding
Depending on the situation, this could cause problems.

I think it’s “posts before X date” that were lost. I, a relative newcomer, lost only a few posts and no stars while others lost bunches.
So you’re saying it could actually cause the website to have problems MB? I thought it was just a ranking thing. Although if my level wasn’t shown right on dungeon masters, then I’d be pissed!
Not really a problem for the web site, just the rankings. Let’s use me for an example.
Before the upgrade, I had about 1750 posts and four stars. Now I have 402 posts and three stars. As a coder, I have to ask myself why the data didn’t carry over correctly. With 402 posts I should only have two stars. Members don’t get three stars until 500 posts. Again, a coder has to wonder why this isn’t displaying correctly. Also, when I hit 500 posts, will I incorrectly get a new star or will my star count stay the same until I hit 1000 posts? At 1000 posts, members get their fourth star.
Nothing of world shaking consequence, just a matter of the post count working correctly. Earning stars is part of the fun of posting.

Same goes for me. Since i’ve only been around for 2+ years, I don’t think I lost any.
I just noticed that new people are automatically given on 1 star. Previously, members were given one star on their fiftieth post.

True we all lost stars and posts BUT do you honestly care? Are you afraid you won’t get the respect you deserve from newbs MB? We all know and recognize the names that have been around for a while and that’s all that matters I guess.
If you’ll go back and read my posts, you’ll see why I mentioned it. It means something is not working correctly. When something is not working correctly, it needs to be fixed. It can also mean, depending on the coding, that something else may not be working correctly.
It’s all part of trying to help the board work efficiently.
