If you’re following this thread, keep in mind that fares after late May will be significantly higher. “Peak season” pricing seems to be starting a little earlier than usual this year.

If you see a price in this thread that you like—book it now. There are no guarantees the airline will hold seats at these—their lowest prices—for you to come back a day, week, or month later to book at your leisure.

Like most sale offers, quantities are limited, and when seats on your travel date sell out at this fare, the next-highest fares can add $200-$300+ more.

$761 rt total NYC-ZRH July 9 \ Aug 9 Swiss Airlines
found with ITA

Cheap/easy access to NYC and want to go to Europe this summer? This might be your ticket.

Anyone else seen good offers lately?

Excellent. I just tried ITA with departures from May 25 to June 24, 1 month stay, and it found $601rt total JFK-DUB with Aer Lingus departing 18 June and back on 21 July.

I think ITA either missed this fare yesterday when I checked, or Aer Lingus just started offering a sale fare yesterday—the latter would be my best guess.

And of course Dublin is a good entry and departure airport if the price is cheap enough, because of Ryanair’s heavy presence, and Aer Lingus trying to compete on price with them to many destinations all over Europe.

Don, how are you getting some of these fares (specifically the NYC departures) under and around $500 if departing by late-May?  I’ve checked British Airways and Aer Lingus, and the best I can find is no less than $630.  I’m in Tennessee, but for those kind of rates I could easily justify a bus trip up to NYC.  Thanks!

I am leaving from Seattle with $13000 for 367 days

Keep in mind that fares I posted with BA and Lingus are about 1 month old now. Like all sales, stock can sell out, and sales don’t last forever. Here’s how I got them (I’ll try it again):
ITA month-long search feature
staying about 1 month
departures from May 1
from NYC;BOS;BNA;IAH
to LON;DUB;STO;ZRH;MAN
Shows a calendar with cheapest fare among these cities
May 25 Boston-Heathrow $532rt total with Air Canada

Doing same thing for departures just from BNA (Nashville) turned up $600rt total with Air Canada to London with Air Canada, May 25-June 27. Try those exact dates and cities (BNA to LON) with www.bookingbuddy.com (ITA found BNA-LON $550 if depart by May 19—probably part of this Air Canada sale).

Wow, that’s fantastic Don!  Found a May 19th departure from BNA to LHR (via Toronto) for $550.09rt!  Comes back on August 18th, which is perfect for me.  Thanks so much Smile

That’s superb for a stay > 30 days. Glad it helped. ITA actually aren’t a consolidator, they are an airfares database with very powerful search and sort tools. Sometimes the prices they find are not available. This can be due to airlines providing incorrect fare or availability information, or availability on one or more flight legs changing from the last avaialbility ITA received until a customer actually tries to book from an end-seller (such as Expedia, Air Canada, Orbitz, etc.). When all else fails, Orbitz sometimes can find the fares that ITA finds; I believe Orbitz use ITA technology for their fare search and itinerary construction.

Anyway, glad you found a good price. Thanks for posting your details. Everyone else out there in the USA listening? Check Air Canada for good sales to London if outbound in May! Someone else tipped the forum about this sale last week.

Any advice on going from the San Francisco Bay Area to Europe in mid July? I am teaching summer school, can’t leave earlier and don’t really care what country I fly into—just want a cheap flight. Any thoughts?

CLT-CGN Continental $572 by May 18
ATL-LON Delta $738 by May 25

If you’re following this thread, keep in mind that fares after late May will be significantly higher. “Peak season” pricing seems to be starting a little earlier than usual this year.

If you see a price in this thread that you like—book it now. There are no guarantees the airline will hold seats at these—their lowest prices—for you to come back a day, week, or month later to book at your leisure.

Like most sale offers, quantities are limited, and when seats on your travel date sell out at this fare, the next-highest fares can add $200-$300+ more.

CRW (Charleston, WV) – LON $710 United, dep. by May 23
CRW-DUB $830 United+Aer Lingus via Dulles, by May 25
CRW-ZRH USAir $845 by May 18

I checked some other smaller airports—BOI, ELP, ABQ—but no fares worth posting, except the surprisingly-cheap fares from Charleston, WV.

I found a a fare from LAX-Stockholm, Sweden for $1090 (Continental), travel dates: d:7/13-r:1/7/09 and wondering if I should get it. The deal expires on May 5th. I typically wait to about a month before travel to get my tickets because I have noticed you can get some good deals. For example last year I found a ticket around christmas time to Sweden for $750 about one month before departure, but 2 weeks later the price had gone up to $1000.
I am afraid though that I might not be able to get a cheaper ticket since I am leaving in mid July and staying for 6 months.
Any suggestions?

From my own personal experience I would you suggest you check the ATI website and others like it as much as possible. I bought a LAX to London Heathrow on Air France for $767 Total RT  6/24-8/31. What I did was check these websites (the ones Don has posted on these forums) several times daily while at work and even in the evening when I got a chance. I made this a habit. I bought my ticket at work right before I left for the day.

I actually had a chance to buy those crazy SFO to FRA tickets you can see&nbsposted a while ago on this forum for $460 RT but I didn’t have my passport yet and wasn’t sure if I was going to be issued one, bad for me because I missed out on a hell of a deal.

Good Luck

July 13 to Jan. 7? Since that’s longer than 90 days, I gotta ask… Do you have work, residence, study, European citizenship, or extended tourist visa already arranged?
