I have a gadget that I got in Switzerland many years ago – it is the size of a CREDIT CARD and has scissors plus alot of other gadgets in it. I traveled with it in my purse many times back and forth to Europe (Air Canada) without any comment from security. Last year on a trip to Japan (United Air)they wouldn’t let me take it with me so had it sent from the airport home by UPS.
Does anyone know if I would be allowed with my precious gadget on board?

Thank you for all your suggestions.

I highly doubt it, unless you check your luggage.

According to the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) policies, you can’t CARRY-ON any sharp object. The only thing they will allow is a rounded tip butter knife, or plastic utensil. Not even a nail file can be brought on. It doesn’t matter what the size is, or that it is just an attachment to a tool. Nothing with a sharp blade, or pointed tip is allowed. When you go through security they’ll make you either throw it away, or give it to someone else not boarding, or you don’t go on the flight.

The only difference between the card and carrying a knife is that you’re less likely to get caught sneaking contraband onto the plane. It will be confiscated if TSA, or its equivalent in other countries, finds it. I forgot mine was in my purse and took several flights in several countries before it was confiscated in Croatia.

Yeah sometimes I actually wonder how much they scrutinize the xray image of your carry on stuff. It almost seems like as long as you don’t have a machete or a big box that says “TNT” they let you through. That said, I’m sure the one time I would try “sneaking” something on, I’d end up with a full cavity search Smile

That’d be my luck too, Feicht. My wife and I had a really annoying experience back in the fall. She accidentally packed her contact solution (like 9 fluid ounces of it) in her carry on and they pulled her aside, went through everything, then made her leave the secure area and stand in line again for 35 minutes despite the fact that they had just searched everything. The thing that really pissed me off was that some redneck right in front of her had a pocketknife in his bag and they just took it and sent him on his way.
