Guys and Gals,

I will be heading to Europe for my third trip with one of my best friends who is a “rookie”. On a previous trip, I had stayed at the awesome Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald (www.mountainhostel.c…), and my buddy and I really want to do some hiking and see some wonderful scenery like that again on this trip.

Basically, I was wondering if anyone had stumbled across some other places that were similar to Gimmelwald in their travels, and if so, where? Basically, we are just looking to do some hiking, relax, and sober up after Oktoberfest in late September.

Scott

Austria? Go to the central train station in Innesbruck. Ask someone which tram to Fulpmos (sp?). This is basically a trolly-ride through a lovely mountain valley. It puts you in the valley near the Stubai Glacier. All the towns in the valley are winter resorts, but hotels are open in the summer for hang gliders, paragliders, etc.

Otherwise, the short answer is, no, I have not. The hotel there up the side of the mountain at the top of the lift is pretty unique. But I haven’t been there, before.

My favorite area in Switzerland is the mountainous area that surround Lago Maggiore on both sides. Now, if you had a cycle and the legs of a DeLuca, that would be a trip! There are plenty of camping places, sort of.

Castelrotto in the Dolomites (the Italian Alps).
It’s different than the Swiss Alps, but equally as scenic. You should see other parts of the Alps for a change.
