Switzerland or no Switzerland?
Fri, 07/06/2012 - 01:49
Hello everyone,
my buddies and I are going to be in Europe this month, and we’re trying to decide whether to go to Switzerland or not. Everyone raves about Switzerland, but I’m trying to figure out if it fits our preferences.
We are going to Europe for the food, the history, the “sights”, the scenery, etc. We’re not really into the outdoors stuff (i.e. hiking, etc.). Given our preferences, and the fact that we’re going to be seeing Paris, Bruges, Amsterdam, Barcelona, etc., is there anything the Swiss Alps have to offer us if we don’t want to do anything “active”?
Thanks.

Plenty of people go to Switzerland just to see the scenery. The food is also quite good. While it is relatively expensive (as are Paris, Amsterdam, and Barcelona), you can keep your costs down by staying in the smaller villages.
Madrid, Toledo
Dublin, Dingle, Dublin
Bruges, Ardennes, Bastogne, Brussels
London
Given your preferences, I’d skip Switzerland. Parts of it are gorgeous and the public transportation system is beyond compare, but I don’t think its cities are that great in comparison to the ones you’ve picked. I’m a mountain scenery freak, but I prefer cheaper and friendlier parts of Europe for that.
Thanks!
Cities like Genova, Zurich and Bern are amazing from a cultural and historical point of view and they are always on the top of the world’s most livable cities, so I would definitely go if I were you, but if you are more into nightlife and festivals, than maybe you should skip them. You should definitely read some Switzerland travel guides to be able to decide.
If you don’t have the budget then I would stay away because the cities there are so expensive. However, Zurich has to be my favourite city in the world and is just amazing. You’ll find amazing sights and scenery all throughout Switzerland but again its a bit more pricey than other places in Europe.
You can visit this natures paradise for sightseeing.
Tuscany Farmhouses are perfect holiday accommodation for your Italy visit.
