I’ve been to 14, soon it will be 15 (leaving for Machu Picchu/Peru in 2 days!).

And BTW, "Florida USA" is pretty broad. That said, from what I’ve seen of Florida, it wouldn’t make the cut.

I just realized that I am so untraveled. I’ve only been to 6 so far, but that will change soon. It’s pretty expensive to travel to most of those places from Eastern Canada, and so far i’ve only been to the US and Europe.

Haha, I got like 5!

What a bland list! Tourist traps the lot!

Except my sweet sweet Bangkok!

I could make a better list of places I’ve been than that!

heh
Yeah, I think I got about 8, and believe me I am not patting myself on the back for having been to Las Vegas.
Not only that, I wish places like the Galapagos would just be left alone. But I think I am in the minority with that opinion.
Probably the best list is your own personal one, but I can see how lists like this one and that Places To See Before You Die one, for better or for worse, can pique one’s imagination.

Is Europe so ugly ??
The first spot in Europe is on 17th, Venice (by the way I’ve seen it)
After this, there is Paris, on 27….(I have seen it too)

just wondering…

…about two places which I’m proud of… I’ve not been to any of these arsehole magnets!

those with more than 26, have seen 90% of the places in a split second through a tour bus window not doubt!

I don’t think the list is in order, at least I wouldn’t put Florida before Paris….. In fact, sorry, I wouldn’t put Florida in MY list.

I’ve been to like 7 of those, and I’ve also been to about 50 places worth seeing more than half of what I’ve seen that’s on this list.

———————————————————

I made 9 places on the list. I do agree with Jester though – Lots more places that are equally or more worth seeing.

3 Florida USA
8 Sydney Australia
9 New York USA
15 Niagara Falls Canada / USA
24 Hawaii USA
25 Auckland New Zealand
27 Paris France
35 Rome Italy
37 Barcelona Spain

Don’t hate the Herr cuz he’s well traveled!!!!!

Yeah, and I know some people who, having seen part of it, said the same thing about Mexico.

As I said before, the best list is indeed your own personal one, but I think lists like these are fine to talk about, some might be tourist traps but just because I didn’t like Las Vegas doesn’t mean someone else would hate it.

But yeah, what Jboy says is no exaggeration. There is an actual club organized by "travelers" who may do absolutely nothing at a place but land at the airport then check it off their silly little list, just so they can say they’ve "been" there.

Seems they focused almost solely on big cities, ancient sites, and natural wonders (the later of which being why Europe isn’t well-represented on the list).

Sorry for asking, but what kind of list/survey is this ?

Is it the most popular places, measured by number of visitors ? Is it the places that visitors rated highest ? Is it the places that the BBC by some subjective standards regarded as most seeworthy for brits? Is it the places where most icecream-cones are sold in a year?

I think most of these places are interesting in their own way, but certain things seem rather strange: Are Paris and Alaska almost equal tourist sites ? Are cities like Bangkok, Zermatt, Singapore and Dubai meore interesting than London, that doesn’t appear on the list at all?

Without the relevant background information, that list seems utterly irrelevant to me – so more info, please, DvsOne.

It was a survey conducted by BBC in 2002 of what its viewers would rate as places to see before you die.

Surely the places are not all similar in their setup.
i.e. Florida is a state/province
Paris is a city
Grand Canyon is a tourist site
Great Barrier reef is under water, and u’d really only DIVE it.
Terracota warriors are 3 big room pits..

so not comparable.. and SURELY there are MANY MANY places left off the list.. but it was a survey.. so it’s pretty representative i guess.. but then again the population is skewed to BBC viewers/listeners.

OH and about Whistler.. i live in Vancouver too.
it’s not part of the Rockies..

Thanks for the response DvsOne – it kind of explains the mysterious priorities on that list (a lot of brits have already been to Amsterdam, Paris, the scottish highlands, the norse fjords and so on – and almost all have been to London)

It’s probably pretty representative – but only to brits, though …

I’ve been to about 18 of them.

Curiously enough, I was digging through one of my drawers this morning and found the same article. It was a BBC poll from 2002 regarding "…places you think that everyone else should see in their lifetime."

I was only a few miles fron Angel Falls though but I didn’t bother stopping because it was said to be barely a trickle at the time (98) due to the drought (El Nino).

You’re a fucking idiot, best city if you have a huge herion problem or like being harassed by those that do. Best place if you want to spend twice as much rent than you would most anywhere else in North America save San Fran, New York and possibly one or two others. Best place to meet ice cold pretentious 6 dollar latte drinking yuppies…….lived here all my life, can’t wait to get the fuck out.

I can see how someone who doesn’t live here would love to visit, but living here is the drizzling shits.

I was in New York about 2 weeks ago, that my friend is a fucking city.

A city of character and humour, fine people without the pretension of the granolas out west, the tackiness of the Albertan and the arrogance of the southern Ontario. I think the east coast would be nice, however.

It truly is "Friendly Manitoba"

What makes Sydney great?

I had a professor who’d travelled to every corner of the world, she said don’t bother with Sydney, it’s overrated. Other than that Opera House, there’s not much to see.
