I just realized that I am so untraveled. I’ve only been to 6 so far, but that will change soon. It’s pretty expensive to travel to most of those places from Eastern Canada, and so far i’ve only been to the US and Europe.

Yeah, I think I got about 8, and believe me I am not patting myself on the back for having been to Las Vegas.
Not only that, I wish places like the Galapagos would just be left alone. But I think I am in the minority with that opinion.
Probably the best list is your own personal one, but I can see how lists like this one and that Places To See Before You Die one, for better or for worse, can pique one’s imagination.

I don’t think the list is in order, at least I wouldn’t put Florida before Paris….. In fact, sorry, I wouldn’t put Florida in MY list.

I’ve been to like 7 of those, and I’ve also been to about 50 places worth seeing more than half of what I’ve seen that’s on this list.

As I said before, the best list is indeed your own personal one, but I think lists like these are fine to talk about, some might be tourist traps but just because I didn’t like Las Vegas doesn’t mean someone else would hate it.

But yeah, what Jboy says is no exaggeration. There is an actual club organized by "travelers" who may do absolutely nothing at a place but land at the airport then check it off their silly little list, just so they can say they’ve "been" there.

Seems they focused almost solely on big cities, ancient sites, and natural wonders (the later of which being why Europe isn’t well-represented on the list).

Amsterdam isn’t on there? What a stupid list.

Sorry for asking, but what kind of list/survey is this ?

Is it the most popular places, measured by number of visitors ? Is it the places that visitors rated highest ? Is it the places that the BBC by some subjective standards regarded as most seeworthy for brits? Is it the places where most icecream-cones are sold in a year?

I think most of these places are interesting in their own way, but certain things seem rather strange: Are Paris and Alaska almost equal tourist sites ? Are cities like Bangkok, Zermatt, Singapore and Dubai meore interesting than London, that doesn’t appear on the list at all?

Without the relevant background information, that list seems utterly irrelevant to me – so more info, please, DvsOne.

Surely the places are not all similar in their setup.
i.e. Florida is a state/province
Paris is a city
Grand Canyon is a tourist site
Great Barrier reef is under water, and u’d really only DIVE it.
Terracota warriors are 3 big room pits..

so not comparable.. and SURELY there are MANY MANY places left off the list.. but it was a survey.. so it’s pretty representative i guess.. but then again the population is skewed to BBC viewers/listeners.

I was only a few miles fron Angel Falls though but I didn’t bother stopping because it was said to be barely a trickle at the time (98) due to the drought (El Nino).

I’ve been to 6 on that list, and Florida isn’t one of them.

Weird! i’ve never been to Auckland but I defintely think (and this has been echoed by most people I know who have been there and to other major cities) that Sydney is the best all-around metropolis I’ve ever been to.

I had a professor who’d travelled to every corner of the world, she said don’t bother with Sydney, it’s overrated. Other than that Opera House, there’s not much to see.
