HEY! I DRINK DAMN GOOD BEER AND AS MUCH AS I POSSIBLY CAN HANDLE!
As for the geography…… see DvsOne’s comment!
Skiing and snowboarding is Whistler/Blackcomb is second to NONE and I have been to a TON of places in US/CANADA/EUROPE SKIING.
I am? Oh so those who disagree with you are fucking idiots. That would make you one smart dude.
I’ve been to New York too.. I wouldn’t live there if you PAID me to. Vancouver is so much more beautiful, peaceful, and friendly.
That and 20 minutes and you’re up a mountain ready to ride the fresh powder..
Also, in New York, u’d be in the US of A, an under the control of a maniac of a president..
Sure you spend more on rent, but obviously you make more to compensate. You listed San Fran and New York.. then you said later that New York is a nice city? nice argument buddy.
6 dollar lattes.. Do YOU pay 6 bucks for a latte? I don’t.. So who’s the fucking idiot?
What are you waiting for? if rent is so high, city is so boring, and hell a latte costs 6 bucks.. why aren’t you outta here yet?
Fact is.. Vancouver has a very high cost of living. That’s fine. I don’t mind it b/c i can manage. The rewards are endless.. I live 3 min drive from a nice golf course, which I can play 12 holes after work. 20 minutes drive and i’m up a mountain. You want Water sports? diving? kayaking? surfing? all available. You want Mountain sports? hiking, camping, mountain biking? all available. You want lake? 1 hour away. You want world class sking.. 2 hours away. You want a postcard backdrop, lots of green trees, and a peaceful neighbourhood? Well that’s right outside my door.
Chucko buddy’s got his head screwed on backwards – either that or he himself’s living on heroine. Fact is, Vancouver f*cking owns and United Nations have put us on top as #1 city out of the whole world. Nova Scotia chicks are hot, though.
Canadians are idiots!
Hastings, says it all.
Vancouver is an awesome place to visit. Nothing like being able to see bald eagles out in the park.
The area around gas or china town does have some very, very sketchy characters. I was there during the day, and I thought that there was a good chance that I’d be robbed. Well, try at least. It is in Canada after all, so they probably wouldn’t have a gun. Hockey stick maybe, but no shootin’ iron.
Okay, when I said New York City was better than Vancouver I wasn’t talking about price, I just said I thought it was better. Yes Vancouver is expensive, and New York is more expensive than that….I think New York is better but is it worth the increased price? I have no idea not knowing exactly what the rents are, if it is twice as good as Vancouver but three times the price then obviously it is a rip off, but that doesn’t change it being twice as good.
I myself don’t pay 6 bucks for a latte, I’m sure you’d be hard pressed to even find a 6 dollar latte in Vancouver, it’s called hyperbole buddy……..point is that people here overpay for shit to appear trendy.
Look, Vancouver is nice, I’ll give you that, and maybe my disdain for the place is not so much the place as it is that fact I’ve lived here all my life and need a change……but lets also look at the situation in the city realistically.
Yes, we got mountains and water and blah blah blah…….but the city has just become so scuzzy in the last few years. I’m not talking about the downtown eastside, I’m talking everywhere. In New York I saw like 3 homeless people and only got asked for money once, and my hostel was in Harlem. Walk around the so called "good" areas of Vancouver like even Robson or Kitsilano and good luck not either being directly asked for money or walking past 3 deadbeats with their head in their hands and a sign with a sob story about how their junkie ass has aids. It’s getting ridiculous, fucking UBC, right in wealthy point grey has like 3 homeless people fucking living there. Seattle has water and mountains too, do you think the U of W has homeless people living in it?
Whatever, to each their own, I contend Vancouver is nice to visit but eventually the novelty of water and mountains wears off (although ask me about vancouver when I’m gone for a year and I may miss the mountains and water) and you’re left with a scuzzy city.
And Vancouver is NOT a friendly city………..made more friends on one subway ride in New York than riding the 99b line to UBC for 3 years.
Euro passport is in the mail, then I’m outtie! Although I will miss the cambie pub, good times.
Totally agreed with what you had to say, Chuck guy, and this nasty trend of overpriced novelties and such which bugs me – it just ain’t worth the bucks. Can’t remember much of New York when I went as a little guy, back when the Twin Towers were still up, meh, but I’m sure to head back sometime soon, hopefully. And there are a lot of homier cities out there, especially being a foreigner looking lost out in Germany – you’ll get approached by people who’d like to help. That’s exactly the person I am when others feel the same way too (as in them being lost). Nice topic this is.
foreigner looking lost in Germany? Are you talking about me or are you in the same boat?
Same boat; just talkin’ about past experiences
So did you live in Germany? Where are you now?
Home – getting ready to go to school now actually
Only made it to 4 myself.
