Hey everyone,

I am going to Pamplona on the 6th and staying two nights (don’t know where, but i guess i’ll figure it out…hehe)
Anyway, would anyone like to arrange a meeting? I would like to get a small group together to meet and have a drink or whatever.. I think it would be awesome, and I would really like some company on this trip. Im a solo female 22 y/o and my first time to the festival. Honestly, I’m intimidated.
So, if anyone else is interested, I figure its always good to have a few people around that you (somewhat) know.. Drop me a line!!!
If you like, write me at TiffanyM320@aol.com
Aloha

Hi happytravels

I’m also traveling solo and will be there (26 y/o female).

I’ll be arriving July 5th (via Barcelona) and leaving July 8th.

I was also going to start a similar thread. Sounds like a great idea. We could all meet up one of those evenings.

I’m assuming everyone posting under this topic – hallamok (who I’ve been in contact with), krush_alum, simmo, guapa, etc

Hope to see everyone there

Lola

I too am traveling alone for the festival, I will be in pamplona on the 6th and there until the 11th, so a gather of this forums members sounds like a good idea. I am staying near the whole thing. I guess we all could discuss a meeting place and so forth later on, we got a few months. Although I am sure it will be here before I know it.

fyi I am a 27 y/o male

Hi Happy Travels,

First I would like to say that the best way to enjoy the fiesta is with other people. So if you can hook up with people at the fiesta that is great. One thing I might add is that this is not always as easy as it seems. People tend to loose track of time, pre-arranged meetings sometimes fall through.

I have gone to the fiesta by myself, but have a large group of friends that meet up from all over the world, and it sometimes takes me a few days to finally meet up with them. I have never feared for my personal saftey in pamplona.

The biggest threat is to your pocketbook/wallet. NEVER carry large sums of money into the street with you. I have had a lot of my guest loose everything because they felt it was safer on them than left in their rooms. I have had to lend people money to get home on as they have lost all their money, credit cards and even passports.

One year on this board some people decided to wear red scarves to help them find one another. Boy did this make me laugh. Then they figured out that everyone wore red scarves and changed to green. But a lot of the penas wear different colored scarves as well. I hope those people found someone to party with. It isn’t really a problem to meet people in pamplona. Everyone is friendly and having a good time.

Probably the best place to try and meet someone is in Plaza Castillo. There is a Gazebo in the center of the plaza where people can hang out and look for people, or there is a statue of hemingway at the Plaza de Toros. These are a couple of land marks that are easy to find.

There is also a Bar near the Hotel LaPerla (in Plaza Castillo)called the Winsor where a lot of americans hang out that is easy to find as well. BUt this place is pretty expensive so don’t wait there long.

One of the most amazing things about the fiesta is the feeling of harmony that exists in pamplona during San fermin. Everyone is happy, there is music, dancing all hours of the day and night.

I am sure as a single woman you will not be lonely for long in pamplona.

I’d like to get in on this too. My friend is bailing on me around the first of July, so why not go to Pamplona? I will be there during the same time frame, might jet a little early….actually I probably won’t. I’m solo M 24. I’ll meet up with anyone.

Where is everybody staying? I can’t seem to track down any hostels in Pamplona online. Any help would be appreciated.

Awesome, I’m glad to see you guys are interested. I’m just still not sure where Im going to stay, sorry, (izuno-i think hostels are a longshot here) I want to stay in a hotel, so I was thinking that would be a good place to meet, and go from there. But guapa’s idea about meeting at the statue in the Plaza de toros sounds cool too.

I’m coming from San Sebastian on the 6th. I suppose we may need to identify eachother some way, I could send pictures…

Krush alum, where you staying? I need some help with the hotel search. Guapa, do you know of rooms that are not so central? Obviously I need the cheapest place I can get.

By the way, if any girls wanna go in on a room, that might be a good way to cut costs.
So I know we have a while to plan, but arent we all just so damm excited I sure am Smile

Well, any ideas, feel free to add ‘em. The more the merrier.

You can email me anytime,
See Ya,
Tiff

I’m 22 yo male from US and’ll be in Spain to get gored.

On the accommodations line, maybe the guys could get a room, the girls another and then split the cost. (?) Looks like there are three guys here who are going and two girls, so far, or something like that.

Lemme know what ye thinks!!

I am staying at a hotel a couple blocks from the plaza del toros, I booked it a month or so ago and was very lucky to get it. I am paying almost 300.00 dollars a night for it though.

The place is called Occidental Leyre. for places check out camp sites, might be a good option. or check out other threads. The site that has the official san fermin festival has a great list of places and ideas. guapa can get the link possible or someone else, I will try later, but gotta run right now.

Hello All,

This is the year that I AM GOING. For the past two years, money, and school have been issues. This year no longer. I’m a 28/yo Male from Miami that IS GOING. I am shopping for a plane ticket in the next 2 weeks, and when I find something good, i’m buying it. I think that I will also be going alone due to my friends backing out. It’s ok. I flew from Miami to San Diego for a weekend concert solo. This is no biggie, plus im latino so spanish is my native tongue.

Tonight I emailed 6-7 hotels/pensiones/private owners that may have rooms. I will let you all know of the availability if any, and if needed then maybe we can share a room. I’m also for meeting up. That would be really cool.

I’m planning on flying into either Barcelona or Madrid, whichever is cheaper, and staying in Pamplona for 3-4 days tops. Running at least once or twice. Then heading to Barcelona. I am an architect so naturally I love Barcelona and looking to spend a few days there and maybe in Madrid.

If anyone wants to get in touch. You may do so at hernaldo4444@hotmail.com

Cheers
Hernaldo

hey everyone i am also going to the running of the bulls. we are 3 males in our upper twenties, we booked a room at Meson Del Barro checking in the 5th checkout the 8th of July. were heading for san sebastian after that for some much needed relaxation and rest. the cost for 3 beds and a shared bathroom was 130 Euro per night which works out to about 57 US dollars per person per night. according to the map and the hotel owner, the place is about 10 minutes bus ride into the center where everything is happening.

anyway it would be awesome to meet up with some folks, the more the merrier. this will be our first time at the running of the bulls.

anyone interested in meeting email me at Luisfc1972@excite.com

Hi Guys,
Not only is it difficult to meet up in a specific place in Pamplona but arranging a time is also difficult because there is so much going on. It is also difficult to pick people out, especially if you meet at a well know meeting place with lots of other people there. What I would suggest is on the steps of the Town Hall under the Town Hall clock, it is easy to find and not many people meet there. I would suggest meeting on the hour every hour for say a three hour time period e.g. 3pm,4pm and 5pm. That way the group would get bigger each time and you can still stroll about in between the hours. The Town Hall square is right in the middle of the old part opn the bull run course. If anyone is thinking about running with the bulls they should check out
www.pamplona.co.uk
If anyone has any questions about the fiesta and the bull running then drop me an email
amplonaposse@hotmail.com”>pamplonaposse@hotmail.com

Don’t worry about meeting people, you will make hundreds of friends in Pamplona in the Fiesta.

That’s why I think it’s a great idea to stay in the same hotel, or at least hotels near eachother..

If you guys are serious, I’m waiting to request reservations for that hotel Meson del Barros.

I know we have a lot of time, but not for the reservations. I dont want them all to be full

I already have my hotel, but I would love to meet up with everyone. I have a great location so we could possible meet in front of my hotel too.

I am staying at the occidental leyre which is like 2-3 blocks from the Plaza del toros. I am so looking forward to this trip. Makes work go that much slower thinking about it. I bet june is gonna drag like no other waiting for my oportunity.

I am gonna arrive on the 6th that morning and I am leaving on the 11th so I will be there a good time span to meet everyone. I cant wait.

go illini

if you want we can meet. well already be there a day so well know what bus to take to the center etc. by the way im not sure if you know but the reception hours there are from 9h to 24h, but they give you a key.

Hey guys,

I’m going to festival (22 y/o male) and I am definately interested in sharing a room with some people. I’m coming from Barcelona, don’t have exact dates, but I’m flexible. I don’t mind sleeping on the floor, bathtub, or whatever… I just want to stay close and cheap. I’m traveling by myself and I would love to meet a group of people to share the experience and party with. I was planning on spending at least three days in Pamplona. If your interested in sharing a room or just getting a group of people together.. email me at ildx3ll@aol.com

Well I have one hotel room left for the beginning of the fiesta a double with 2 single beds. Kursh Alum and Honorthebrick have taken my other two rooms for the first 4 nights, as well as Lola is staying in another of my rooms. Honorthebrick called me today and said he tried many different places and could not find a room and he is a spansih speaker.

The room I have left is for only 2 people. Those of you thinking of renting a room and then crashing a bunch of people in it let me give you a hint. The owners of the hotels are hip to this and watch closely to those going in and out.

The other thing is it is cheaper to stay further out, but it can be a real hassel first thing in the mroning to get back in time for the runs. Remember if you plan to run you need to be back in pamplona by no later than 7a.m. if you plan to watch from the street behind the barriers you need to be in touch even before that.

There isn’t a statue in Plaza castillo it is a Gazabo. There is a staue of hemingway at the plaza de Toros.

Sam the words close and cheap are not in the cards unless you plan on sleeping in plaza castillo on a bench. Those of you hoping to find something by just showing up you had better have a back-up plan. The start of the fiesta is close to the weekend and will be packed.

Solo females should not sleep alone in the park, or anywhere excpet for a room. If you find you are having to sleep in the rough find a group of people to sleep with. You can shower at a couple of public places, but I have to say that doing this for more than 1 even 2 nights is a REALLY hard way to enjoy fiesta.

At least Kursh alum and Honorthebrick have a place you can leave a message for and they should be easy to hook up with.

If you are planning on showing up without a room you should check your belongings as soon as you arrive so you will not get them stolen. Never keep large sums of money on your person or credit cards etc as the pickpockets are the best there are.

The oyther thing is that you can sometimes find a room from people at the train station, but you may end up on the floor of some families house, and they could be in another town so beware of this as well. Know where you are trying to be. The center of the fiesta is the old quater not the city center.

Time is getting shorter to figure out where you are going to stay.

I have a room for 3 singles for the nights of the 5&6th if anyone is interested in a room right on the run for a few nights. It is in a shared apartment has 3 single beds in the room and you share the rest of the flat with others. At least it would give you a chance to get your feet under you when you arrive.

Is there someone name Kursh alum, I got my reservation through someone else, I hope you didnt reserve something for me. I appreciate your offers and all, but I am good, where is it you have rooms.

You have apt. or private houses right?

hope to see you all there.

oh yea, go illini, see you in indy, then chicago, and then finally in st. louis, we are going all the way baby

I am not totally against sleeping on a bench if thats the way it has to be. The only problem is the shower situation… I’m sure that after a day or two I am gonna need to wash up. What are the rates on the rooms? I will most likely have the cash to burn, but Pamplona is at the end of my trip so I don’t know exactly what my financial situation will look like. If anyone is interested in splitting the two person room… male or female.. email me as soon as possible because I would like to book something for sure… this festival is the main highlight of my trip to Europe and I do not want to miss out on it no matter what.

G’day Smile

I’m planning on heading to Pamplona myself around the 5th or 6th for a couple of days and would be really keen to meet up with some other solo travelers as well.

My name’s Ben, I’m a 21 y/o male from Australia. I haven’t organised any accommodation yet and would also be keen to share if anyone is interested. I didn’t realise accommodation was going to be so difficult to get – is there anything still available now?

I’m trying to do things relatively cheaply as well, so wouldn’t mind staying a little further out and getting up early to make the trip into town. I’m thinking about maybe even doing the run.. but I think I might watch it first and see if I’m up for it. Smile

Anyway, it would be great to at least meet up with a group of travelers and have a drink or two, so if anyone is keen, drop me a line. benjfreeman@gmail.com.

Two of us from the US will be coming on the 10th, probably late that day whenever the train from Rome gets there. Does anyone know about camping in Pamplona? Are there campsites or anywhere to camp in the city?

G’day guys,
Being a typical aussie, myself and two other mates have left booking our accomodation in pamploma till the last minute…. just wondering what the chances are of still getting a place to stay in pamploma. We are willing to give anything a shot….

Cheers Chico

PS If anyone is interested sharing rooms or something like we would also be keen for that…..were all decent guys who just like to party and have a good time

Haha, why are we like that chico? I’ve done the same thing. What I’m gonna probably end up doing is going with is going with a package with a campsite tour group (check out www.backpacker.co.uk). For about $370 Australian I’ll get accommodation for the 3rd through to the 9th (a couple of days before the festival to get to know people, have a look around, party etc. and then a few days during the actual festival).

The price also includes breakfast every day and free shuttle buses between the campsite and downtown Pamplona.. the camps about 25 mins out of town apparently. Looks like a pretty cool setup though. Anyone else done this before?

Basically, I looked at accommodation in Pamplona itself and there wasn’t a whole lot left.. and what was left was really, really expensive. I figure I’m getting a better deal this way.. but I’ll have to wait and see I guess.

Check out the site anyway, it has all the details on it. Drop us a line if you reckon you’ll head that way. benjfreeman@gmail.com

For those of you looking for a cheap place to stay while your in pamplona camping is a good idea and this place has a pool and the set up is good. The only problem is traveling back and forth. The bus only runs a few times each day, so if you aren’t ready to go when the bus is you’ll have to stay thru the night, also plan accordingly as it can get cold at night so you might need a light jacket or sweatshirt. It just makes things more difficult and it isn’t convienant, but for those of you on a budget it is a great way to see the fiesta.

You can not set up tents inside the city you must be in a camp ground. Your things are safer in a campground than if you are sleeping in the rough in pamplona (you and the ground or a park bench)
Believe me staying in one of these places instead of sleeping on the ground, drunk and getting sunburned is a good idea.

If you are camping don’t take all your cash or credit cards in to pamplona with you as the pickpockets are at their very best in pamplona during the fiesta.

Guapa,

Would you be able to suggest how I could get to the El Molino campsite (apparently very close to Mendigorria) initially?

The camp people operate the shuttle bus once the festival begins but I need to get there a couple of days before.

Is there a bus that runs from Pamplona to Mendigorria or nearby? Would you know if this bus runs frequently? Or how much it would cost?

Thanks

Will be in Pamplona w/two other guys (27-28) from July 5th -10th and will be staying in the mendebaldea apartments, it was a real hassle trying to find accomodations but………. oh well, finally got that squared away. Will be coming from Barcelona on the 5th.

A group meeting should be fun and a good chance to meet others for the festivities, plus if anyone has been there before they can help show us rookies around. In Brazil a similar trip was arranged for Carnival over a internet travel site and it turned out very good and we met some great people and had good times….. nothing like sharing a good experience with good people.

I will keep checking to see when and where the meeting will be arranged for, will most people be arriving on the 5th?

Also thanks happytravels (tiffany) for showing me the site, i saw you on lonelyplanet……..
