Traveling Ireland Solo
Tue, 06/05/2007 - 21:49
Ok, so I really want to travel Ireland in late spring of 2008, however the people I would plan to go with probably won’t be able to go. I would like to say I’m confident enough to travel alone, but I’m not sure I am. I’m not worried about safety so much as being lonely. How does one experience the Giants Causeway or Blarney with no one to turn to to say “Wow, how awesome is this?”
I know this is not any easily answered question, but any suggestions or anecdotes would be great on how wonderful solo travel is.
Also, anyone that might be traveling that way next spring and might be interested in meeting up, drop a line!

We’ve got a great thread going on about solo travel over at eurotrek.net – feel free to join in:

You ask though, “How does one experience the Giant’s Causeway…..without anyone to turn to and say ‘Wow, how awesome is this?’” – you know what – you are TOTALLY going to meet those people while you’re travelling. Stay at some cool hostels and you’ll be amazed the friends you make (and so QUICK).
not really related…but i wanted to see the forum for solo travellers on eurotrek, but am apparently “forbidden” from accessing the site.
??
Forbidden? What is the error message you’re getting? You’re not icbites, are you?
I enjoy “sharing” the sightseeing experiences with somebody else, however I do like traveling alone. Perfect for me is to start out alone with a plan to meet up with somebody later in the trip.
I think you will enjoy traveling solo. You’ll meet other travelers in hostels and on trains. Do your research in advance and carry a good guidebook — If you’re the one with the plan and the suggestions, you can always find others who want to tag along.
Assuming your trip to Ireland is only about 2 weeks, I doubt you will have time to be lonely — except the problem of eating dinner alone.
Yeah I’ll be going for 2 weeks. Haven’t decided specifics yet, but most definately Dublin and Cork (mainly to go to Blarney).
The more I have thought about it the better I feel about doing it. I’ve never had an opportunity to do anything like this alone and now I only have one person to consider and please… ME! I’m fairly excited about this now.

i’m not icbites. i don’t even know what/who that is. lol.
