Vasilias Nikoklis Inn
Situated on the edge of the ancient village of Nikokleia, is the charming Vasilias Nikoklis Inn. This small family owned and run hotel, located six kilometres inland from Pafos International Airport and twenty minutes drive from the town of Pafos was previously an ancient khan, a place for travellers to rest and feed both themselves and their animals. The Inn stands on a bend on the west bank of the Dhiarizos river with views up the valley to the Troodos mountains and down the valley to the sea. Hemmed in by lemon and olive groves, it is profusion of plants of every hue, from bougainvillea to fig trees and cool, grape covered dining terraces
The Vasilias Nikoklis Inn has been lovingly and carefully renovated to offer present day travellers comfortable accommodation and an environment in which to enjoy traditional local dishes and wine. There are 8 double rooms (16 beds), each with en suite bathrooms with shower, and Central Heating for the cooler months. Most rooms have a private balcony. You will find all the essential qualities of a small family run inn combined with the peace and tranquillity of a rural location.
Nikokleia is a small, quiet, scenic village some 17 kilometres east of Pafos. It is situated in the valley of the Dhiarizos river, amid citrus groves, orchards and vineyards. The village was named after King Nikoklis of Pafos (320BC). The Inn takes its name from him, Vasilias meaning King.
There is a local belief that Nikokleia was used by King Nikoklis as the garden to his royal palace in Paleapafos, now Kouklia village. Paleapafos was the capital of Cyprus at that time. This may or may not be true! But it would indicate that the village is probably over 2000 years old!
The church of Ayios Dimitrios, established in 1768AD has many interesting icons.
Near the village is the Asprokremnos Dam. Well stocked with trout, carp and bass, it provides good fishing. The pools below the dam are an interesting stopover for migratory birds, a must for birdwatchers visiting the area.
Using the Vasilias Nikoklis Inn as a base, you can enjoy mountain trails, cycling and bird watching, visit ancient monasteries and local wineries, wander through quaint old villages or just relax and enjoy the tranquillity. Pafos archaeological sites are within easy reach as are other important Neolithic and Aeolian settlements and it is less than 10 minutes to the sea. If first glass golf is your choice, there are three quality golf courses within easy reach of the hotel
FEATURES:
Bar, restaurant/tavern with traditional open fire for Winter.
Garden dining areas
Telephone/email
Rural surroundings combined with easy access to Pafos Town and the Troodos Mountains
